connda replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Psst - Crack Houti troops have now joined North Koreans and Iranians in the fight in Russia's Kursk. Up next, Myanmar troops, Martians, and Metal Munching Mice led by Boris and Natasha Badenov. But never fear - the Moose and Squirrel will save Ukraine! -

The Decline of Free Speech: How the UK Became a Third-Class Nation
connda replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Scene aboard the Death Star, in which Leia explains the political reality to Grand Moff Tarkin: “The more you tighten your grip, Tarkin, the more star systems will slip through your fingers.” From The Guardian UK: “After the Charlie Hebdo shootings, heads of state marched abreast in Paris in symbolic defence of France’s long tradition of freedom of speech. This seemed reassuring. But that image was what political consultants call optics – for democracies around the world have recently seen a striking wave of anti-speech legislation… Surely, after one terrorist atrocity after another, stamping out the freedom to express “extremist” ideas on college campuses and online is a small price to pay for safety? But the core assumption on which these politicians, including Cameron, are selling these laws to the public, is simply wrong. The concept underlying such bills is that dangerous ideas are like a virus. You can quarantine them or kill them, like germs. But ideas are like a vast, rushing body of water that will uproot checkpoints and reconfigure a landscape – if barriers are placed in its way. In fact, the history of censorship shows that it is completely useless in stamping out ideas: the fastest way to spread an idea is to censor it.” Surely, after one terrorist atrocity after another, stamping out the freedom to express “extremist” ideas on college campuses and online is a small price to pay for safety? Thanks! I was waiting for someone to call me names and hurl slurs. That's usually what comes next from these folks considering they seem to be incapable of actual analytical thinking no less the ability to debate issues. If they don't like you! "You're HITLER." Oh well, I grew up in the era of "Sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me." That was back when people graduated from high school with better than a six grade education. Things have gone downhill since then I'm afraid.

You people who hate Trump with a vengeance are so butt-hurt that just like between 2016 to Jan 2021, all we are going to hear from you is "Trump Is Literally Hitler." Had Harris won, I really would not have liked it, just like when Biden won. Not because I'm a Trump supporter, but because I detest the type of progressive liberalism that these people represent and promote. But! I didn't have a meltdown and lose my sh*t over the Biden win, and had Harris/Waltz won I wouldn't have lost my sh*t over that either. Very honestly. Do you people suffer from some kind of deep-seated psychological issues that manifest in this almost suicidal angst and loathing when everything doesn't go your way? This is what spoiled little children do - throw temper tantrums when they don't get their way. That's an honest question because your reactions are not those of mature adults who can cope. Your reactions are infantile to the point of absurdity. Trump won, Harris lost. A Trump administration will government, probably with a Republican Senate and House for the next 2 to 4 years. House elections are again in 2026 and presidential elections in 2028 (if this planet isn't a smoking frozen post-nuclear holocaust ball of ice). I mean really - grow up and act like mature adults.

He can leave the US and move to a Neo-Third-World city like London, Berlin, or Paris.

The Decline of Free Speech: How the UK Became a Third-Class Nation
connda replied to Social Media's topic in World News
The Decline of Free Speech: How the UK Became a Third-Class Nation "Third-Class Nation" is inaccurate. More accurate is an "Orwellian Totalitarian State." There seems to be a massive push in Western countries to embrace totalitarian restrictions on speech, as well as dissent. It bodes not well for the West. It's the same thing that the West accuses all the countries they have declared to be "enemies" of engaging in, like China. I expect it in China, I don't expect it in countries that claim to be "Liberal Democracies." Nowadays "Liberal Democracy" equals "Totalitarianism" and even Classic Fascism. Welcome to 1984 on the Thames. The Democrats and Far-Left Progressives were trying to take the US down that path, but just ran into a wall emblazoned with MAGA, Trump, and the US Constitution and Bill or Rights, and POTUS Number 47. We're not going down that path just yet. Sucks to be in Western countries outside of the US though. -
Thailand's Expats Urged to Register with TRD for Tax, Says Expert
connda replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
But still, it's a requirement to file tax returns - but they don't. Then those of you who are giving us excuses as to why average Thais don't file, then jump up and down in a hissy-fit telling those of us who have foreign income that is exempt by DTAs or that falls below the same tax exemption structure as the majority of Thais - that we need to file or else Uncle Somchai is going to get you!!! I'm not filing for the exact same reason as those "majority of Thai people don't earn enough to pay taxes." Those Thais income are exempt under Thai tax guidelines, and so is what I remit to Thailand. US Social Security is exempt via the DTA. I've crunched the numbers and posted the guidelines months ago. I own the Thai government nothing other than the 7% VAT they deduct from my purchases. And like every other Thai person who doesn't pay income tax - I do pay Thailand's regressive VAT taxes as well as tariffs and duties on imported goods. "You don't pay taxes!!!" Yeah - I do. So does every person buying goods in Thailand. You can't have it both ways. I have absolutely no tax commitment to the Thai government, just like all of those "majority of Thai people who don't earn enough to pay taxes." My earning are exempt like a whole lot of other farang expats here, and just like that majority of Thais you mention. "But you need to file tax forms every year!" So does every Thai citizen in Thailand. Again - you people worry wayyyyyy to much. Ask you local doctor for some diazepam. You'll relax and feel better. Honest! Stop beating a dead horse. And if you are one of those "rich, wealthy, Hi-So farangs" - then hire a tax consultant or get on your private jet and leave the country for 180 days a year. For the rest of us it's DNA - "Does Not Apply!" -
