  1. Stop Police corruption? It's more likely to snow two feet deep in Bangkok than to stamp out RTP corruption!
  2. "The Minister revealed that the idea of a land entry fee was firstly raised into discussion following the 2015 explosion at the Erawan Shrine in Bangkok, in which many foreign tourists were also injured." Perhaps had Thailand had better intelligence on the Erawan Shrine bombing it could have been avoided. Instead they would just like to take the easy route and tack on an entry fee.
  3. A very sad and tragic accident. I hope that a thorough investigation will find out exactly what happened. RIP to the bicycle rider.
  4. Pushed, jumped, accidentally fell, the possibilities are many. First off, all railings should be 1.2m high. That would solve a lot of problems. Won't stop a determined jumper though.
  5. Just a terrible look. That's not how to attract tourists. Of course, with the current Thailand Pass system that is killing tourism anyway.
  6. "Speaking to Thai language news outlet Bangkok Biz News, Tourism and Sports Minister Pipat Ratchakitprakarn explained that Thailand Pass is a state registration system and it can not simply be cancelled. “The Thailand Pass system cannot be cancelled because it holds data and important information on tourists which can be used to trace them when they travel in Thailand,” Mr Pipat said. Since July 2021, anyone visiting Thailand has been required to register using the Thailand Pass system." What a load of rubbish. Yes, it can be cancelled. You didn't even have it just a little while ago. You just need to dismantle the system. Why the need to track the movements of every tourist entering Thailand? Is this North Korea or the former East Germany? You already have hotels required to report all foreigners staying at their hotel to immigration. What's next, ankle bracelets with GPS monitoring? I see an increase in tourists bypassing Thailand and going to Vietnam, Malaysia, Cambodia, and Laos.
  7. How does the Motorcycle taxi guy know how much she is pulling in each day? On another note, it sure pays a lot more than teaching English
  8. Well they might use Krung Thep but very few use Krung Thep Maha Nakhon in everyday conversations. It's just too long!
  9. Vietnam changed the name of Saigon to Ho Chi Minh City after the end of the American War in 1975. 45+ years later the local people there call it.............Saigon. Looks like it didn't really take hold. I wouldn't expect the Thais to really accept this change that much in their daily lives either.
  10. The competition for tourists among the countries of SE will be won by the nation that has the least amount of hoops to jump through.
  11. They have also developed some very good skills which combined with their ability to work for a lot less than an American film crew makes them very employable.
  12. "1. Too Tall:The average height of a Thai woman is 157.3 cm (about 5ft 2in) while the average height for a man is 167.5 cm (about four inches taller). There are always exceptions to the rule but, generally speaking, taller women were probably not born as women. Tall people (of any nationality) generally also have large hands and feet, which can be another good indicator." A number of years ago I used to date a Thai flight attendant. She was 178cm (5'10") tall and had large hands and feet. She was all female though. She now lives in the USA and is married to a farang and has a 10 year old boy. There are a lot of taller Thais these days. Change in diet maybe?
  13. They also have "dual pricing" for out of state US students attending public universities that are not in their own state.
  14. Just another reason why I cannot in good faith suggest anyone to visit Thailand until these potential "money grabs" are removed. Until Thailand returns to pre-Covid entry and exit requirements one should avoid Thailand.
  15. If the assassins were indeed foreign and sent to Thailand to complete their job I hope they had work permits otherwise they will be in huge trouble.
  16. Be careful as you can still get railroaded in Thailand! 555
  17. He is NOT in Thailand. Still in NZ somewhere on the north island.
  18. I wouldn't cut corners on good quality running shoes by trying to go with knock offs. There is a big difference. Factory seconds, as sold in the west, are exactly that. A shoe that usually has some cosmetic defect but is structurally sound.
  19. Why am I not surprised that he is first in line to pat his own back or toot his own horn?
  20. About three years ago a friend of mine came to Bangkok with his Thai wife for 30 days. During that time he found that he needed to extend his time in Thailand. He went to the Immigration office in Samut Prakan as he and his wife were staying at her house which is located in that province. He still had a bout three or four days left on his 30 day visa exempt. They extended his visa exempt status for another 30 days. The cost for this was 1,900 baht. He is an infrequent visitor as they only come to Thailand about every other year. Not sure if that matters or not.
  21. Yes, it is all set up by the Thai authorities in order to extract as much money from foreign tourists as possible. They should also include a free BTS and MRT pass to all visa exempt tourists. That way they could ride crowded trains and further increase their chances of testing positive the next time they need to take a test at the 5 day mark or when boarding a plane. A nice quarantine hotel or hospitalization would help fill the government coffers.
