  1. It will be a rough go for this Kiwi until they finally come to a conclusion of what really happened. Hopefully there are enough CCTV cameras (that are working) to put together what went on by that pool.
  2. The good thing about security at condos is that they can keep an eye on what is going on around and in the condo. They also help as a deterrent to crime within the property and the units. The bad thing is that the security can be bribed by the not so favorable people to enter the premises and steal items of value that are kept there.
  3. You could also try searching for Thai women that are already in your home country. You may be surprised about how many there are to be found nearby. If you are younger, and near a bigger university, you might find a few that are studying there. Usually they are graduate students so a little older. If you are in the 25-35 age range you might do very well. My Thai niece went to Australia to study for a master's degree in accounting. She earned her degree and also met an Aussie guy who is an engineer and now lives in Sydney. They have been married for about 10 years now.
  4. Looks like this guy needs to be brought before the Thai justice system where he can get a trial and then be fined and deported. Most likely blacklisted for a very long time. Hopefully the US authorities will pick up on this case and prosecute him for crimes committed overseas.
  5. Definitely some very sick young boys. Unfortunately, very little will be done to get these boys the help they need nor will they be held accountable for the crimes that they have committed.
  6. If you want to buy a condo for you to live in that might be ok. Make sure it is a newer unit in a desirable location. Then, if for some reason you have to sell, you MIGHT be able to sell it for near what you paid for it. As far as buying condos to rent out. I would advise against it. Personally, I would just be a renter here in Thailand. It's much easier and less headache.
  7. Good on them! I'm all for them visiting Gambia. Hope it works out for them.
  8. The 90 day visa free (exempt?) + extension would go a long way in increasing tourists and semi retired or retired Americans, Canadians, and other Europeans to spend more time in Thailand. It would be a boost to the Thai economy as no matter what income level they are they still need to spend on the basics such as a place to stay and eating.
  9. I like what you describe. I also like the Jomtien area as it is much quieter than central Pattaya. Lots of good things about Pattaya. Lots of bad things too just like anywhere else. The two biggest improvements that could be made is cleaner air but I know that will be a tough one. The other is the filthy water in the area. No way do I want to go swimming in Pattaya or Jomtien unless it's in my pool.
  10. I haven't ever been asked for my boarding pass at immigration. It is nice not having to fill out the arrival card on the plane anymore. On Wednesday, my flight to Taipei was delayed an hour due to the plane being late arriving in Bangkok.
  11. Airfares might dip a little but they will turn around and continue to add fees for seat selection and other small service fees. The price of international airfare will certainly not "plummet" as the headline states.
  12. Come to Thailand for Songkran? I can think of two reasons not to come to Thailand. Songkran and the month of April. It's just too hot that time of year.
  13. Good on Kittipong Pimphun for exposing this. Hopefully the hospital can be officially named as well as the executives at the hospital. Additional charges should be filed for making threats against Kittipong.
  14. Need to hear both sides of this story. However, to quickly try to force/coerce a resignation from someone does not give the RTA a good look (again).
  15. It's good to hear that lives were saved. A few had to go to the hospital. Did the tour boat company pick up the hospital bill? Or is it a "You pay bill now". "Settle with tour boat company later."
  16. It seems that the Thai boat operators neglect to check weather forecasts prior to setting out in vessels that probably are not up to international maritime standards.
  17. I think the article provides a lot more questions than answers. What really happened? It might be awhile until we actually find out.
  18. The power brokers behind the scenes will continue to see that the elections turn out the way they want them too. Doesn't matter what the people want. I too have been following Thai politics for roughly 40 years and it is almost always the same. It is very sad that the Thai people don't really have a voice in the future of their country.
  19. I cannot see the Thai government intervening and having positive results in this matter. There is just too much history of successive Thai governments going along with the current regime to appease their neighbour.
  20. I second the thought on going on a walkabout and finding some small bar that appeals to you in the area that you like. Other than that, the bigger hotel bars are usually quiet.
  21. Yes! We will be going out later tonight for a Christmas Dinner at a local Bangkok riverside restaurant.
  22. Merry Christmas to all the participants on this forum!
  23. No! I've never experienced this anywhere in Thailand. If anything, the opposite has been what I have observed.
  24. I think most of us already know that answer. Too bad the TAT doesn't!
