  1. l have been hearing this same old statement being made since I first got involved with Thais and Thailand 45 years ago. "By the year 2000 Bangkok will be flooded" was the warning cry back then. Bangkok is still here and not flooded.
  2. Let me get this straight. This is an economics Dean at a Thai university giving advice on meteorological issues? I guess I should consult a meteorologist for economic advice.
  3. Renting would be better for most people. Much easier to leave if things happen to the area you are living at that you have no control over. I own both a condo and a couple of houses with the houses in one of my son's name. I've been lucky with the houses in that I have good neighbors. The condo I just rent out but a lot of times it sits empty too as there is an oversupply of condos and they keep building more and more of them.
  4. Yes, I know that. I was replying to someone else who brought up cycling in Bangkok. Sorry that this bothered you.
  5. Perhaps, but they are still Thai citizens.
  6. My two luk krung boys were born outside of Thailand. We went to a Thai consulate and applied for Thai citizenship for them. They were each given Thai passports in about two months. About a year later we moved to Thailand and stayed there for about 12 years. We then relocated back to my home country so they could finish high school and then go on to university. They both have current Thai passports and Thai ID cards. They occasionally go back to Thailand but not often. As they are in their late 30's now, I highly doubt they will ever return to Thailand to work. Holidays, yes but that is about it. If your Thai wife. ex-wife, girlfriend has all the necessary documentation she probably can go and get the child registered and entered into the tabien bahn but I'm not sure if the child has to be present or not.
  7. I worked in Thailand for 12 years quite a long time ago now. I thought that I would retire to Thailand. However, over the last 10 or so years I have re-thought that idea. Most likely I will just spend 4-5 months over the winter in Thailand and the rest of the time in my home country.
  8. You could try both Rama IX Park where the oval is located for a few quick laps. You can't cycle elsewhere in the park that much. Even better is Nong Bon which is right next door to Rama IX Park. It has a 4km path that is shared with other cyclists, runners, and walkers. A lot of shade so is nicer than Skylane.
  9. Neither are very good candidates, just like the last election. 2016 wasn't much better. A lot of people will vote for Harris just because she isn't Trump. Over the past week her numbers have surged upwards. Monday will be the first day of the DNC convention in Chicago. Usually a candidates numbers rise after the convention. However, the election is still quite far away. I honestly don't know who will win but there will be a lot of whining going on by whoever loses. If Trump does lose, I do hope that he can be a man and accept defeat. The US does not need another event like 6 January or worse.
  10. I've got a number of places that I want to visit. North Korea definitely isn't one of them.
  11. Definitely No! I really don't think any past or future President should be added to that monument. (Should have had a poll on this one)
  12. No, definitely not a Trump supporter.
  13. Sex offenders are usually not dealt with too kindly in prison. Those that prey on children are treated even worse. He will have a difficult time in prison.
  14. I thought he was just doing a runner to avoid paying his hospital bill.
  15. Hamas should have released the Thai hostages as soon as they knew they had them. They don't really offer any benefit to their cause. The Americans that are held, are they dual Israel/American citizens?
  16. The headline says, "Pattaya's walking street to undergo excavation for underground cable project." but the text of the article says, "This is a section of the PEA's Lot 6 development, which extends from the Royal Garden Plaza to the start of Walking Street." Seems rather confusing when reading the headline and the text. Hopefully whatever they decide to do it can be completed before the start of the high season.
  17. "Pattaya News reporters at the scene noted that some foreigners attempted to bribe the police with 2,000-3,000 baht to get their motorcycles back, but the offers were declined." That might be the most surprising thing of this whole event.
  18. Hillary? I don't think so. Looks like Kamala is the front runner.
  19. He was probably shacked up with "Noi" and "Lek" at their apartment and having the time of his life.
  20. Perhaps because they enjoy cycling? You do know that there are many bicycle touring companies in Thailand right? Obviously, a lot of people like to come to Thailand to engage in this activity.
  21. "Historically, these inexpensive tour packages often came with conditions, such as compulsory purchases at specific stores, which would catch travellers off guard." Obviously this would not go over well. Being forced to buy products at a store not of my choosing? Not bloody likely!
  22. No, that would be Trump. Biden only does family members.
  23. It's too bad that they never name the bar where the assault or other incidents have happened. Oh well, TIT.
  24. If the food that the Thai vendor was selling makes women that randy, I'll definitely have to take my girl there!
  25. Perhaps one of these new VIP aircraft can be sent to pick up Yingluck so she can return to Thailand in style.
