  1. Kudos to the parents! I wouldn't want a RU graduate tutoring my child in anything!
  2. Of course, there is always the possibility that she used her friend or sister's ID card which said she is 20 or older so that she could work in the bar. That has been known to happen in the past.
  3. That is quite the list and you have definitely travelled quite a bit around the Kingdom. There are definitely a few places you have not been too. In the interest of keeping those places fairly off the grid I shall not name them, hence they be overrun with mass tourism.
  4. I've been hearing this same old song for 40 years. Nothing has changed. It's the same old system with their top/down mentality for both students, teachers, and administrators.
  5. I don't think that you can keep your flight from BKK to the west coast of the USA under 7 hours. Definitely can't on the return trip when it's even longer. As others have said, book a business class or Premium economy seat. That should help a lot. Personally. I prefer EVA and China Airlines with both going through Taipei.
  6. Always check to see if the Myanmar border is open for foreigners to cross into their country. Most of them right now are closed to land border crossings.
  7. In theory, yes. Whether immigration would check is only when they need to such as you renewing or extending your current visa.
  8. "Marisa emphasised the need for improved law enforcement to address the issue of illegal sex workers, a problem that has plagued Pattaya and other Thai destinations for several years." Right, those pesky illegal sex workers. She obviously only wants "legal" sex workers.
  9. A friend just did his at the Prachuab Khirikhan office yesterday. He had been at a hotel there for a couple of days. After checking out he went straight to the immigration office and applied for it. He said there were very few people there and was done in about 20 minutes. He applied for it after only having been in the country for 10 days. They just add the extension on to where the other one would have expired so he got his 60 days total.
  10. There most likely is nothing wrong with him medically speaking. Just been a big hoax to get preferential treatment. He needs to be returned to the prison he came from.
  11. There are a lot of talented Thai doctors practicing medicine in western countries. It's been that way since the 1970's. Most went on some type of scholarship or fellowship for advanced specialized training. When it came time to return to Thailand they just found an employer to support their application for residency. The old joke was where do you find the best Thai doctors? Try NYC, LA, London, etc.
  12. With a number of detractors going on right now, shooting at the mall fresh on their minds, wariness of the Chinese economy, fear of a global recession, and now the strengthening of the Thai baht to the USD these all put a damper on the Chinese tourists ability to travel outside of their country and specifically Thailand.
  13. Not at all surprised by the Thai government action on this. They have been doing this for many decades now against numerous groups leaving the strife torn areas of their home countries. Of course, the UN isn't exactly expediting matters like this at all. They continue to work at a snail's pace while riding around in luxury vehicles, living in very expensive accommodations, and sending their children to very costly international schools.
  14. It seems that the groom has a very fragile ego. Took offence to his new bride's interactions with others that day and decided to go out to his car and then start shooting the bride, her sister and her mother.
  15. Exactly! Neither of my two luk krung sons have any desire to return to Thailand to work. They have Thai citizenship, attended school here, and have native fluency in both Thai and English. However, there is no comparison to their earning potential here in Thailand compared to what they earn abroad.
  16. Nothing new other than the Thai government openly discussing this. How long have US law enforcement agencies (CIA, FBI, DEA, etc.) been in Thailand? Maybe 50 - 60 years?
  17. Lots of different possibilities. Most likely some type of money/drug debt or a jilted former BF/husband back to reclaim his "true love".
  18. Not me but a good friend of mine his Mom & Dad, both Americans, moved to Bangkok back in the early 70's after a few years in Seoul. They lived in Bangkok until he retired from the banking world around 2010. They then moved to Bang Saray and have lived there since. They are both in their 80's now. My friend has lived in Bangkok since about the age of eight. He's in his late 50's now. Other than 4-5 years he spent in university in the USA he has lived his whole life in Bangkok.
  19. I met a Thai girl who was in grad school at a university in my country a very long time ago. Have bounced around a bit between a few countries since then but still keep a house and a condo in Thailand as well as my home country.
  20. Maybe next time she will NOT invite someone back to her place. Especially someone she just met. It's just not a smart move.
  21. Definitely more to this story. Most likely she has someone above her that she reports to since her "commission" is only 200 baht.
  22. Really doesn't affect me that much. I don't hit the bar areas that much anymore and when I do I'm on the Skytrain before midnight to take me home.
  23. Such a sad end to this man's life. My condolences to this man and his family. May he RIP.
