  1. I think the OP is referring to a butane type gas lighter, and that gas is usually contained in a pressurized can. Many common zippos take the fluid type gas and that is easily found, and probably 7-11. But never seen the pressurized gas at a 7.

Yes, I found a butane filled can for my handheld stove lighter in the Ubon Big C. It cost 40 baht a can and was sold by a vendor next to DTAC booth. The vendor also sells flashlights, digital clocks, bb guns and all sorts of odds and ends.

Maybe you can find one at Big C in Mukdahan.

  2. I was talking to my friend in Bangkok and she told me she regularly uses an exterminator to clear her home of pests and rodents.

Is anyone aware of such a service in Ubon? I've got rats running across my false ceiling in my home at night. I'm worried about all the diseases and eventual stink the rats can bring.

Is anyone aware of or can recommend a professional exterminator in Ubon ?

  3. Thanks for your assistance in helping widows like the lady mentioned above. I can only imagine how overwhelming this issue must be for her. Thank goodness, there is somebody that has taken an interest and willing to help. Not really sure what the consulate can do for her, but at least she has some viable options now.

  4. I personally have never understood having the Thai air force. Who are they going to do air strikes on,

    Cambodia ????

Ditto for having an aircraft carrier and I believe there was / is talk of getting submarines.

It's all just face and to stick it to all the near neighbours, we are bigger, better and stronger than you. As if they care.

What a stupid statement!!! MR super does your country of origin have an air force?? if so why do they need an air force?? Why do you think??

The Thai air force pilots are very good pilots and before making these statements you should think about how good your countries air force is and why they need an air force before posting such a stupid statement.

the second statement by Mr Platinum member mmmmm just as stupid. Thailand is one of the most progressive countries in the region so why shouldn't they get better military equipment?/

Is that only the right of powerful Western nations ?? no of course not

I hope,Mr. LTDOTB this doesn't ruin your impression of the Thai AF. Thai military pilots might be good pilots, but when it comes to military tactics, engagements, and planning to fight an air war, then they are not that great. Generally,.Thai pilots lack the demeanor and experience to execute a battle plan or even a dog fight. With dissimilar aircraft from other countries, Thai pilots test their skills against other countrie's military, often getting their asses kicked and humiliated by the opposing forces. Luckly, during the de-briefs, it often turns into a friendly lesson learned experience.

The Thais have good aircraft in their inventory, but just don't know how to effectively use them. Training for the pilots and the ground crews is severely lacking. I can only guess where there military training budget goes to.

  5. The Air Force needs to be in a state or readiness in case they decide to drop 1,000,000 paper cranes on the South again.

If I recall correctly, they weren't exactly ready to assist in evacuating people from Egypt.

Does anybody have any idea of what exactly exploded? It surely wasn't an entire aircraft?

Would also love to know the details of the accident and type of aircraft they were working on.

Having spent many hours fixing and repairing aircraft gun systems during the Vietnam war here, I know the dangers involved in working with munitions. With all the safeguards designed and in place, nothing can protect you from the carelessness and disregard for safety that is needed and required of dealing with live ammo.

  6. "...Thailand and Tajikistan have agreed on bilateral cooperation which included increasing number of flights to and from both countries, promoting Buddhism..."

I hear there are many 14 year-old girls in Tajikistan, and who doesn't want to own a fleet of luxury cars?whistling.gifwhistling.gifwhistling.gif

    You have to PROMOTE Buddhism?

How does she think she can promote Buddhism in a country that is 90% Muslim? Brilliant!!!! cheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gif

  7. Agree, it may be medical related. I had a similar experience last year when I tried to climb some stairs in Japan. My legs just crumbled on the steps and my heart started pounding. Had that tingling sensation also. I was really scared and thought I was going to pass out. I even thought I was having a heart attack. After a few moments I got my energy back and struggled up the stairs.

  8. I guess the question is: <deleted> does she know about Thailand? You gotta live here to be remotely knowledgeable about local issues.

File her under - Hasn't got a clue

She is the Patron for the Refugee Council in the UK, she lobbies politicians on human rights issues and is a highly educated woman graduating from Cambridge. She uses her fame from acting to raise the profile of issues because she can. As she read English at Cambridge she is perfectly capable of pulling together information and studying the political situation in Thailand.

Of course she doesn't have the benefit of a "Thai Visa" education but no ones perfect.

She may have the best credentials in the world for dealing with human rights issues, but do you really think Yingluck and Pheu Thai will listen to her if she contradicts any of the government policies aimed at whitewashing Thaksin?

  9. Are you all seriously trying to destroy, your host county? Most of your comments are totally bizarre and nobody with a brain is even listening to you! Thailand has always been corrupt and possibly always will be but, you whingers and haters just upset every normal persons day! You have no way in a million years of changing anything so, why not get a life, or just keep getting drunk on Beer Chiang, hating your bar girl, and allow "normal" people to enjoy their lives here in Thailand!

    I believe the expression goes

"If you can't handle the heat, then get out of the kitchen."

Maybe you are the only one having problems with these discussions. I find them very amusing and informative. Maybe you should find something else to occupy your time if it bothers you so much.

  10. I was out for dinner last night and on the way back my Thai companions started singing a song with much gusto. When I asked them what it was about they said it was about Yingluck being like a crab, she's got legs, got two eyes, but she ain't got a head ( brain ).

A bit harsh I thought. She has got a head, she just doesn't use it much. coffee1.gif

I think she is doing a pretty good job, at least she has not told the army to shoot people.

    Pretty good job? cheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gif

  11. One thing is for certain , you don't need to be a brain , all the system is sub standard, they would need a complete make over in rail system operations and management , if and when they go up to fast train traffic.coffee1.gif

High Speed train for Thailand? The infrastructure money now being proposed by the gov't should go to improving the existing transportation services, not the glorious high speed train some in the gov't think the country needs.

Currently, the Thai trains are struggling to just keep the routes running, often at the cost of safety. A decent budget to run the rail system will go a long way to restoring the confidence of Thailand's train lines.

  12. That's too bad. cheesy.gifcheesy.gif Having speeding cameras in Chiang Mai would ruin my day if I lived there. Move to Ubon where their is only the occasional police road check where they only ticket motor bikes for no helmets and current license . Never see them stop automobiles nor heard of anyone getting a ticket here in Ubon for speeding. clap2.gif

Move to Ubon just to avoid speeding cameras?? Think I will stick with the speed cameras thanks! wink.png

Agree, a little far fetched, but a lot of people live in Thailand to get away from all the Big Brother and his attempted control our private lives.

  14. I thought these trains were going to be built by the Chinese and be outside the control of the SRT?

The Chinese have expressed varied interests from financing (high interest sof loans), to aiding in construction, to providing rolling stock and other associated systems. Regardless of the operational model chosen if HSR gets built, Thailand will own at least 51% (if a PPP or JV of sorts)... no foreign country / entity, be it Chinese, Japanese, or otherwise will have a majority stake. I believe the off-budget bill working its way through parliament will also mean that most of funding will be from domestic sources, likely some combination of the Ministry of Finance and commercial lenders.

I don't think any country, Japan or China would put up to 49 percent investment to support and assist Thailand in developing a high speed train. Bad investment! For God's sake, why not first, invest and upgrade the current rail system that Thailand uses. For example, the tracks between Ubon and Bangkok in some areas are just plain scary. Thailand and Yingluck are just dreamers. Investors beware.
