South Pattaya canal plagued by environmental catastrophe
BigStar replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
They've supposedly been working on cleaning up this canal since forever. Same problems as identified years ago. -
Probably the best optometrist in Pattaya. However, last I checked, the exams are for customers who intend to buy glasses from her. No standalone exams w/ prescription given. Not atypical. We should have a list here of docs who will give a prescription only. First Optic is one, Pattaya International another (inquire first). What about Pattaya Optic?

Foreign Man Throws Glass At A Thai Woman In A Dog Cafe
BigStar replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
If they do, then why not throw glasses at them? Obviously, they deserve it. Brits not used to heat, so it's OK. What we have here is merely one of our dear lads, out just havin' a bit o' fun and got a little grumpy. Quite normal, expected. Lady should have bled out or visited a nearby clinic while he finished his drink. Sorted! As he said, quite rightly, "I don't care." Nothing to see here, let the lads be lads. -
Foreign Man Throws Glass At A Thai Woman In A Dog Cafe

Disregarding the attempt to trivialize thru exaggeration, how 'bout some time in the monkey house for these perps before they're deported? Let's make things less comfortable for a while. -
Russell's Teapot An attempt to shift the burden of proof from the author to the skeptic. Not uncommon around here; one of the worst trolls in the Pattaya forum (since vanished, good riddance) used it constantly in his doom prophecies about Pattaya--all of which proved false.

Very true. Me, I had an excellent typing teacher in the 10th grade: Mrs. Brown, bless 'er. Hated the course, but it was one of the most useful I ever had. Of course, I have a proper mechanical keyboard connected to a PC. Before posting via phone became ubiquitous, the average post was longer anyway. Now most of our members have only a phone and peck while sitting on a barstool. I'd only type one line as well in that circumstance. It's the new norm. Furthermore, the same topics always recur; there's very little new here. Having posted for years, I can easily copy an old post and paste it in. One tab on my online notebook contains references to old posts and standard replies going back years. Agreed. Short attention spans, low literacy, cognitive decline, meds. Now we do have a few obsessive, garrulous posters with TDS; Global Economics bloviators; and the victims infected with the dreaded, brain-eating Whither Thailand? space monkeys. Takes time to address and to laugh at a dump of wrong-headed assertions AND to pre-empt their predictable weak counter-arguments. However, it's a waste of time, so I also TRY to avoid reading long rants. Tempting though it is to have a laugh, a reply turns into a sort of denial of service attack on your attention. Endless bickering usually results.

Pattaya Booms with Tourist Influx, Hotels Exceed 90% Occupancy

Lemme help you out. Our ANF Economists specializing in Thai Shopping Malls have never been able to see anyone buy anything in a Thai shopping mall. Conclusive verification is achieved by their shopping bag count made as they waddle to and from the food courts. NO shopping bag has ever been seen. The problem is that Thais, Chinese, Indians, and Russians by definition have no money and are therefore invisible. A few Hi So Thais have money, but they only buy expensive good abroad. Fact. Now the remaining great Golden Egg Layers staying over in Soi Buakhao flophouses DO of course have lots of money, merely needing visa agents for convenience, but they insist they absolutely won't buy that overpriced cr*ap. As one of our most distinguished Economists intoned portentously in 2009 when those fools opened Central Festival: Central World is going to fail, just like The Avenues. Anyone stupid enough to build a place that charges Bangkok prices in a small tourist resort town deserves to go bankrupt. So that leaves NO possible buyers in the malls. Hence the purpose of any Thai mall must only be to launder money. Fallback: the shops are simply for marketing presence. All of them. -
You may have been referring in your inarticulate way to my own statement. I usually do order the Americano. However, the OP's 100 baht turns out to have been correct for brewed coffee. 🙂 You may post a photo from the menu next time you're in. 🙂
-
You done good, better menu navigation skills than I have. 'Twas Americanos the gf and I had the other day.
-
Yes. And the OP gave the supposed victim 100 baht for a coffee without claiming it would cover the extra 5 baht. But now @Ralf001comes up with the 100-baht brewed coffee. So then, where's your BS?
-
You missed the point. Starbucks isn't like KFC. You yourself said coffee at the Avenue is 105. And I bought it at T21 for 105.
-
Yup. I like expresso. And they don't actually sell watered-down expresso. The menu is misleading except about the price.
-
Poor translation. It's referring to a hot regular cup o' Americano. 105 baht, gf and I had a couple of cups at T21 the other day. Here's the menu, though we don't want to descend into another Starbucks bashing thread. All been said many times before. https://www.starbucks.co.th/menu/#Beverage
-
Yup, the menu says it's 105 baht, as above. Now maybe he didn't have 5 baht extra in his pocket. Relax, change the soiled knickers.

Can make perfect sense. Nearer to Disneyland means more development, traffic, noise, and horrible tourists. You don't necessarily go into Disneyland every time you visit your vacation home. Many times you just enjoy being in a different location and whatever's around it. Maybe you like the particular home and didn't find anything more desirable in your price range closer to Disneyland. I wouldn't live on Soi Buakhao, either, and I figure there's a reason it has many cheap hotels on the street but only one Diana Estates. Used to feel sorry for owners there when loud concerts and carnivals were held in the lot across the street. Things have changed, but they're also going to continue changing on that street, so I'd be wary. That said, we do have members I believe would like to live above Windmill. Each to his own.

When traveling, I take along a portable MP3 player and earbuds, which could be light headphones. As needed, before sleep, or if waking in the middle of the night, I find that playing an audiobook at low volume puts me to sleep quickly; and the room stays dark, no lights or screens. If I don't manage to turn it off (it doesn't have a timer), it continues playing while I'm asleep. Maybe I should try sleep learning Thai, LOL.

WOT??? I thought COVID was the last nail in the coffin. -
Before buying, there's looking, except for Thais. Our Shopping Mall Experts know that for Thais there's only looking before looking. As is their right, though that isn't really true. More novel concepts. 🙂

You see, though many of our members insist that they ONLY do what's utterly necessary, just eat, sleep, bonk, and defecate, others do more and possess goodies they could do without, but they don't want to. Understand: needs <> wants.

It's amazing how the concept of summer/vacation/weekend getaway home, hundreds of years old, is entirely unknown to our forum members, having a hard time understanding something so basic. It's like they've always lived under a rock. I guess most anything is news.
