This bit of advice should be blindingly obvious, but appears not to be, given discussions I have seen in other places. Think very hard before bolting. To varying degrees, the vast majority of Thai schools will have similar measures. If the people are nice, and you are paid in full and on time, stay there. If you quit, your next job may be no better, and it might be worse.

To the best of my recollection, the news story I saw a couple of days ago did not use the term "private sector". I believe it used the term "public holiday". For the information of all concerned: It is only the first day of this 2 day "holiday" that is a Statutory Holiday. Day 2 has always been a holiday only for the public sector, to make up for the fact that only the private sector gets the May 1 Labour Day holiday.
As an aside, "Day 2" has always been a great day for banking; when you walk into a bank on that day, it is obvious that most people think that the banks must be closed. The Khaosod English story which I just read states that the Bank of Thailand has not yet announced anything following the government's announcement of a few minutes ago.

Recently, it was declared that the &th of July would be a holiday for the private sector, as well as for the public sector.
With regard to any supposed "substitute Songkran ", nothing has ever been announced. I believe the Prime Minister has mused about making three weekends long weekends, but that is as far as it has gone.
As always it would be most helpful if people would refrain from posting speculation, hearsay and wish lists.

So bascily in Thailand, every time an expat changes job, the process is the same like coming here first time, right?
Yes, 99% of the time. In 25 yrs. here, I have been aware of 2 cases where the first employer agreed to allow the addition of a relatively small "moonlighting" job to a subsisting Work Permit.
There has always been disagreement about who owns the W.P. I have worked for employers who locked the W.P. in a safe. One gave it to me the day I resigned, another refused. And, if we are now at the point where the employee can not even walk into cancel the W.P.,I question whether it is his Permit.
-
- the Work Permit is issued to the employer, not to you
- having a second employer added to "your" W.P. requires the prior approval of the first employer.
- going beyond the questions you asked, I have seen something saying, that at least in some Labour dept. offices, a W.P. can now only be cancelled by a representative of the employer.

I remembered my source. The Pattaya News (June 13, 2020 edition) reported that the ban on foreigners was being ended June 15, 2020.

It's your choice. About 10 months ago, I was in the same position as you, also with SCB. I was sitting in my home branch, so no problem.

Sorry, I can't remember my sources on this, but I have seen one report in the last 24 hrs. or so saying that the answer is "yes". And I have seen a report by a foreigner saying that he recently did it, originating from Morchit 2 Bus Station in Bangkok. Still, I would advise you to go to your local bus station a day or two ahead to confirm. Also SRT trains were never affected by this.

- I once did it, all in one day
- are both your current & new job in the same province ?
- make sure you don't cancel your current WP before the new one is issued.

I may soon have to have some documents sent from Canada for my signature, and then return same. I would appreciate comments from anyone who has done this in the Covid-19 era, in which we all find ourselves. Company ? Length of time required ? Americans, please feel free to comment too. I think most couriers operating internationally from Canada are offshoots of American ones.

Given that the OP is outside of Thailand, his getting married wouldn't help. Both he and his new wife would be in the same position - two foreigners with no basis to enter Thailand.

Instead of whining about it on Thaivisa, do what I did - send an e-mail of complaint to The Transport Co. at [email protected] Be polite, and use simple English. If you have a Thai person in your life, ask him or her to do it in Thai. And, ask every foreigner you know to do the same.

Thanks gentlemen. I have taken it to ST Service, located inside Petchkasem Dept. Store, on the Thesaban 1 Road side of the store. Awaiting a chip to be sent from Bangkok.

It's an Acer. I am not getting any illumination on the screen. As far as I can determine, from the indicator lights, the computer itself, and the charger, are still working. It was not damaged in a fall, or anything like that.

Any ideas as to where I can get my laptop repaired in Surin city ? Thanks in advance.

- asking for a friend; Employed as a school teacher in Thailand, presently stranded out of country; so I think will be subject to 14 day quarantine upon Re-entry. He has a Re-entry Permit.
- Will he have to bear the cost of his quarantine ? If yes, does anyone have an idea of the cost ?
- presuming he will also need a "fit to fly" medical certificate, and medical insurance ?

Money has to be in the bank 2 months before application.
This is not universally true. Some Immigration offices still require 3 months before. Giving your location might elicit a reply from someone with local knowledge. Failing that, check with your Immigration office; probably a good idea in any case.

I am trying to send you a message, but the forum won't let me do that, even though I have signed in. If you can send me a message, I will reply to it.

Thank you ! I found Bangkok Post articles from Nov. '17 and Jan. 18 discussing the bill while it was a draft. We can only assume it was passed.
-
Pib, with reference to your Post # 4 above; are you able to cite a source for the 10 yr. figure you mentioned ? I have done research before in English, but never found anything.

You should expect closure if no activity for one year. (365 days). Probably done automatically by the computer. You might be able to re-open, if you make a deposit promptly ( maybe within 1 yr. ?) I did that once, though can't recall exactly how long after realizing the 1 yr. deadline had passed.

I don't have a definitive answer to your question, and to some extent nothing is definite yet. Varying calendars are in circulation, though all now seem to be assuming a July 1, 2020 starting date. The variances now seem to be centred on the length of the October 2020 and April 2021 vacations with a presumption of a normal school year for next year beginning in May 2021.
For the current school year, consider these points:
- a start before July 1, 2020 now seems almost impossible. It has been announced that entrance exams are to be scheduled in the first half of June, with results to be announced approximately June 15.
- delaying beyond July 1 makes it too difficult to complete the required number of instructional hours by April 30, 2021. If they begin on or about July 1, the lost time (6 - 9 weeks, depending on the school) can probably be made up by some combination of: a longer school day, compulsory Saturday classes; cancellation of non-academic activities, and reduction or outright elimination of vacation periods in October 2020 and April 2021.

From what bank or financial institution did you send the money ? Make your complaint there. The receiving bank has no way of knowing if the complainant is telling the truth or not.
