Yes, thank you. Are you referring to the old Sai Tai Mai, or to the new one ?

Am I correct that vans depart from the old Sai Tai Mai Bus Station, at the bend on Borom Ratchathani Road ? Are there still buses to Kanchanaburi, perhaps from the new Sai Tai Mai, which is about 7 km west of the old one ? Does anyone know the approximate frequency at mid-morning ? Thank you.

To the OP: What grade(s) are you teaching ? Regular Program or English Immersion Program ?

I recently checked Fedex regarding a letter I needed to send to Canada Their quote was expensive ( B 1700 vs. B 1200 by EMS - Thai Post.) However, Fedex offered pick-up at my door in Surin, if you need that. In my case, I walked to the P.O., got some exercise, and saved B 500.

Yes, thank you. going to the Post Office is on my schedule for tomorrow, if I don't find a better alternative today.

I need an international courier to pick up a small envelope in Surin city, and deliver it to Canada. I have contacted DHL (website), but they are not responding. Any other ideas ?

No foreigner can obtain his own Visa and work Permit (unless perhaps you are a company director/part owner). Have your personnel officer talk to the local Immigration Office and Labour Dept.

We are staying home this weekend, and this promotion is the reason why. If Thai hotel owners haven't suffered enough, they have the God given right to suffer some more. And, this is not just idle talk. We always travel on this weekend.

Limit to be reduced to B 1,000,000/acct. next month.
Some banks are "too big to fail" - the damage to the economy, and to Thailand's reputation in the world mean they must be saved at all costs. Some banks are "too small to fail" - the relatively small cost of saving them would be less than having the words "Thai bank failure" broadcast to the world. That leaves the ones in the middle !

Yes, thank you. I've seen a lot of self-serving posts on other discussion groups saying that it should/must/will soon be possible to obtain a new Non-immigrant "B" visa without having to leave the country. But, I don't recall seeing a post from anyone who has actually done it.

A friend of mine is close to getting a job offer in Pathumthani. He is currently working on a Non-Immigrant "B" visa extension in another province. Has anyone in a similar situation been able to obtain a new "Non-B" at Pathumthani Immigration, without having to travel outside Thailand ? This question is with specific reference to Pathumthani. If your experience is from another province, please indicate that.

At 7-11's, the cashier register displays the cumulative number of items, as well as the price. And, the total number of items is on the receipt, as well as the price of each, any applicable discounts, and the total price.

There are lists circulating online. The latest iteration I have seen contained nine or ten hotels. Search "Thailand Alternative State Quarantine". Prices vary quite widely. I have never seen any suggestion that the govt. designates a hotel for you.

I have no personal experience, but have read various reports from foreigners saying the Labour Dept. is very helpful. Some have even said that a telephone call from the Labour Dept. to the school has been enough to solve the problem.

This is a guess: If you are 1 digit short, try adding a "0" at the front.

A "visa" is what you get when you apply from outside Thailand to enter the country. What you want & need now is an"extension of stay". I have never heard of one of these 7 day extensions being refused.

I presume you have a Work Permit. Put your complaint in writing, and attach copies of any supporting documentation you may have, such as your contract and any written communication on the subject.
-
From what bank or financial institution did you send the money ? Make your complaint there. The receiving bank has no way of knowing if the complainant is telling the truth or not.

This bit of advice should be blindingly obvious, but appears not to be, given discussions I have seen in other places. Think very hard before bolting. To varying degrees, the vast majority of Thai schools will have similar measures. If the people are nice, and you are paid in full and on time, stay there. If you quit, your next job may be no better, and it might be worse.

To the best of my recollection, the news story I saw a couple of days ago did not use the term "private sector". I believe it used the term "public holiday". For the information of all concerned: It is only the first day of this 2 day "holiday" that is a Statutory Holiday. Day 2 has always been a holiday only for the public sector, to make up for the fact that only the private sector gets the May 1 Labour Day holiday.
As an aside, "Day 2" has always been a great day for banking; when you walk into a bank on that day, it is obvious that most people think that the banks must be closed. The Khaosod English story which I just read states that the Bank of Thailand has not yet announced anything following the government's announcement of a few minutes ago.
-
Recently, it was declared that the &th of July would be a holiday for the private sector, as well as for the public sector.
With regard to any supposed "substitute Songkran ", nothing has ever been announced. I believe the Prime Minister has mused about making three weekends long weekends, but that is as far as it has gone.
As always it would be most helpful if people would refrain from posting speculation, hearsay and wish lists.

So bascily in Thailand, every time an expat changes job, the process is the same like coming here first time, right?
Yes, 99% of the time. In 25 yrs. here, I have been aware of 2 cases where the first employer agreed to allow the addition of a relatively small "moonlighting" job to a subsisting Work Permit.
There has always been disagreement about who owns the W.P. I have worked for employers who locked the W.P. in a safe. One gave it to me the day I resigned, another refused. And, if we are now at the point where the employee can not even walk into cancel the W.P.,I question whether it is his Permit.
-
- the Work Permit is issued to the employer, not to you
- having a second employer added to "your" W.P. requires the prior approval of the first employer.
- going beyond the questions you asked, I have seen something saying, that at least in some Labour dept. offices, a W.P. can now only be cancelled by a representative of the employer.

I have lived in Thailand a long time, and certainly know that. I now live several hours outside of Bangkok. The last time I was in that part of the city, there were still a large number of vans departing from Sai Tai Mai Gaew (the one on the bend). To the real old timers here, I am not referring to the one at Sam Yaek Faichai !
I am currently assisting a friend for an important trip, and trying to avoid confusion and wasted time.
