90 day report falling on weekend
allane replied to ross163103's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
As far as I know, when a deadline falls on a weekend or holiday, Thai Immigration will accept you going in on the first business day when they re-open. -
Several yrs. ago I had tennis elbow. After a few days of trying home remedies, I went to a doctor. He prescribed Arcoxia (etoricoxib-MSD). This was a miracle drug. My tennis elbow was gone in an hour. I don't know if it is available without a prescription.

Use of 90 Day extension
allane replied to factseeker's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
The OP has asked two questions: 1. Can he and his wife come in January for 90 days ? 2. Can they return in Sept. to start the 12 mo. visa for the purpose of Retirement ? The answers are "yes" and "yes". I see nothing in his post to indicate that he is somehow trying to get some sort of pre-approval for their 12 mo. Retirement, or that he is seeking a 19 mo. Retirement Visa/Extension. Nor are they seeking to stay continuously fro January to September. -

Extension/Visa options after divorce
allane replied to lamush's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
After divorce, you have the same options as anyone else. You should be able to get a "parent of Thai child" extension without leaving the country. Divorce does not automatically terminate an extension for marriage. -
I consider the BOT list authoritative on this question. I have never seen it proven to be incorrect.

Retirement Visa - Changing Bank Accounts?
allane replied to HugoFastor's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
I always keep all bankbooks which have become full for at least one year after the date of the last transactions. This is one of the reasons why. -
When I changed my reason for extension from Employment to Retirement (Surin 2018), I was given a one month Under Consideration stamp. Maybe they wanted to verify my financials with my bank ? I got a Re-entry Permit and travelled out of Thailand. Returning two days before my due date, I got a very quizical look at Bangkok Airport. I told them I was on my way to Surin to finish my Extension, and everything was OK. Just make sure you are back in time to go to Immigration on your designated Return Date.

From the basement of Suwanaphum Airport, take the Airport Link train all the way to the other end of its route, Phayathai station. (Running time, 30 min.) Exit the station at its east end. Board a southbound bus for the 10 minute ride to MBK. Some of the routes that come to mind are 29, 34 and 36. There are probably others. You could also board a southbound BTS (skytrain) at Phayathai, ride 2 stations south to Siam,, change trains and board a westbound BTS train there and ride one station west to National Stadium, which is a 2 - 3 min. walk from MBK>

Can Anyone Help Me Name Whatever Afflicted Me ?

Sheryl, I greatly appreciate your reply. I have no idea what a rheumatologist does ! I live in Bangkok, west of the river. Someone west of the river would be nice, but I can travel if necessary. -
Can Anyone Help Me Name Whatever Afflicted Me ?
allane replied to allane's topic in Health and Medicine
I did not have a blood test, only pulse, blood pressure and temperature checks. All of those were within the normal ranges. -
I'm 65, in normal health. I don't smoke, drink rarely, and do some exercise. I'm a bit overweight, but no more than maybe 5 kg. One morning, a month ago, I woke up with serious pain in both feet and both hands, despite having done nothing in particular the day before. The location of the pain in each extremity was different, and seemed to me to be a recurrence of a particular minor or trivial injury that had occurred in the preceding month or so. After a couple of days, these pains began to subside, only to be replaced by serious pain in both knees and both ankles. After about three days since the onset, I was unable to stand without assistance, and also needed assistance to get in or out of a car. At this point, I went to a hospital. I was diagnosed with gout, given a painkiller, a muscle relaxant, and a gout medicine. Reading about gout, I decided that I didn't have any of the predisposing factors, nor any of the normal symptoms of gout. But, thinking the gout medicine would do me no harm, I took it for three days, then stopped because it was causing serious diarrhea, as I had been warned it might. I carried on with the other two prescriptions, and after five or six days, was 80% recovered. Even now, I still have minor pains in different places in each hand. I want to get a second opinion, but don't know where to start. Does anyone have any guess as to what I might have had ? What sort of doctor might I discuss this with ? I don't want to go to a doctor or hospital which will test me for everything under the sun, whether because they have no idea what I had, or because they make money on every test.

Office of Higher Education Equivalency Certificate
allane replied to pickledpapaya's topic in Teaching in Thailand Forum
To the OP: Is this a case where you are trying to get some weird qualification recognized as being equivalent to a Bachelor's degree ? Years ago, I worked with a British woman who had a Diploma from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts, or some such place. She claimed it was equivalent to a Bachelor's degree. Easy for her to say ! After several months, she must have got a letter from whatever part of the British government adjudicates such matters, and she was able to get a Work Permit. As best as I can remember, the adjudication process didn't cost her any money. -
Some buses with the same route have different colours. Why?
allane replied to topswijaya's topic in Bangkok
I,ve been here since 1995. When the BMTA buys buses, they seem to accept whatever colour the factory sends them, at least for air con. buses. As stated above, BMTA non air con. buses are red and cream, and private buses also com in varied colours. -
The following routes provide 24 hr. Service: 2,4,22,23,25,29,34.59.76,91,145 and 203. Source: transitbangkok.com I know nothing about frequency of service.

What they are asking for is a form from the Labour Dept. stating that you have applied for a Work Permit. Has your employer applied for a Work Permit for you ?

Kasikorn Bank - expired ATM card renewal
allane replied to simple1's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
Just replaced my Kasikorn Bank ATM card a month or two ago, after forgetting it at an ATM. No issues, though I was not at my home branch. I've had that amount since 2004, and don't know if I have ever updated my passport info. I think I've only been in my home branch once in the last ten years. -
Ah yes, "Years ago...".... In March 2018 I walked into the Labour Office and cancelled my own Work Permit, simply by telling them I wanted to do so. (no letter from my employer). I may have been one of the last who was able to do so. I recall reading shortly afterward that other people were having trouble trying to do the same, and were being told they needed a letter from their employer.

You can't "transfer" the Work Permit, because it is not yours, it is the school's. When you get a new job, your new school will have to apply for a new W.P. to employ you. You are right; the necessary paperwork can all be done in one day, with close co-operation from both old and new employers, and assuming both old and new jobs are in the same province. I did it once, and had it all done in half day. Have your new employer consult with your current employer before proceeding. You are just the commodity, there is nothing you can do yourself, beyond trying to ensure good communication between the schools. The above comment assumes that you are quitting one full-time job and moving to another.

A friend advises that he recently used # 166 to go from Immigration to the Victory Monument. He says to board it at the south door of Building B, not at the east door where you enter the building. He has no information on frequency of service. When I recently went there, I used bus # 52. I missed one by seconds, and waited 40 minutes for the next one.
