  1. I do, and there are plenty of places we could go as a family, I have little intention of leaving SE Asia, though I see little that might make me leave Thailand.
  2. Coincidentally, we had a second visit from immigration just the last week, not from the main Hat Yai immigration office but from the office in Sadao. This I was told had nothing to do with my extension, which I'd collected a couple weeks before, rather they said their task was to check on the validity of marriages; checking for fake marriages. All very polite, a few photographs, some questions, sign a document saying we're married witnessed by someone not a family member. So this may become a regular thing? I still don't think the extension and 90 day reporting procedures are particularly arduous, I've lived and worked in a lot of countries and I don't find Thailand's rules to be especially difficult. Certainly it's no prison, I have a passport and I can leave whenever I wish.
  3. I have no liking for either.
  4. Mid sixties, full head of hair and a full beard, short back and sides and a beard trim every 5 weeks seems to work for me.
  5. In Jakarta I found myself staying in a condo block with no 14th floor but with two 8th floors an 8a and 8b.
  6. Any floor with a 4 in it is usually missing/misnumbered in SE Asia, the number 4 in Chinese sounds similar to the word for death. .
  7. But if you've worked hard to earn money are you not entitled to spend it? Whilst I admire your frugality it's not how I, or many others, wish to live their lives. I don't consider my lifestyle especially extravagant but it does consume about Bht100,000 per month.
  8. So in the same week that the United States commemorates its independence from the British monarch, its Supreme Court in effect crowns its President - a decision it will regret one day.

  10. No, the Lazada app keeps you informed and gives you notification on the day the package is out for delivery, and then again a notification that delivery will be in the next hour. You also get the delivery drivers mobile number so easy enough to schedule a delivery time if you're out. As we live in a house on a regular soi someone needs to be home to receive a delivery anyway.
  11. No, cash on delivery is still readily available with Lazada, but now instead of actual cash you have the option of scan to pay, avoids any issues or disputes. Certainly check the sellers reputation, that's sensible regardless how you intend paying.
  12. I scan on delivery, no cash involved, and I have a receipt
  13. The phone app won't run on a PC based Android emulator, the phone apps are tied to the SIM and phone number registered against your bank account. You can use browser based online banking (with banks that still support that), but not the phone app.
  14. That's Anutin Charnvirakul mob - not sure that's any better
  15. I'm not sure what I've done to rattle your cage, but hey-ho
  16. Exactly. OK, so there are no active volcanoes in Thailand if you wish to be pedantic
  17. I like durian, one of my favourite treats, but I've not encountered Volcanic durian and am wondering how it got it's name - there are no volcanoes in Thailand.
  18. If the gun was behind his back, how did they know he had a gun? Just asking.
  19. I'm partial to steamed sea bass with chilli, garlic and lime (ปลากะพงนึ่งมะนาว), add steamed plain rice and you've a low fat feast. .
  20. That's not quite true, both families were normal middle class Thai families. His father was a policeman, his mother a teacher, his wife's father started with a bus running from Songkhla Town to Hat Yai, they were childhood sweethearts. Her father built his transport business and expanded into property development becoming very rich in the process. His father was a junior police officer who had close ties with deputy police chief Pol Lt-General Samer Damapong, the father of Thaksin Shinawatra’s ex-wife Khunying Pojaman. So not hi-so Bangkok moneyed families. .
