  1. Weather and Climate https://weatherandclimate.com/thailand/prachuap-khiri-khan/hua-hin another good one for climate data is Weather Spark https://weatherspark.com/y/113017/Average-Weather-in-Hua-Hin-Thailand-Year-Round
  2. They started burying the electric cables in Hat Yai over 4 years ago and they're still working on it. Most of the centre of town has been completed, but there's still a lot to do and they don't seem to including the sois just the main roads. As pointed out, this is the electric cables only, once the poles come down they seem to simply daisy chain the fibre and cable TV cables to the front of the buildings. Bangkok will take decades.
  3. Good lord man, after 17 years on TV/AN you're as aware of the resident cheapy Charlies as I am, I'm not about to name and shame; though most are fairly shameless. As for 'Fred', whether real or a figment of Bob's imagination, good on him - why not spread a little happiness? .
  4. Not one of the regular tightwads on AN then.
  5. It's working again.
  6. Your experience of the 'South' is limited, your knowledge flawed, your mind already made up - why start a topic?
  7. The 'South' is considerably more than just the island of Samui, you probably should change the topic title. Personally I like the south, and Hat Yai is probably humid more of the time than Samui, but having lived most of my life in the tropics, including 20 years in Hat Yai, I consider myself acclimatised. Hat Yai doesn't have an issue with over-tourism, though it does get busy during holiday periods in Malaysia (of which there are a lot). The food is excellent, with plenty of options, air quality here is good most of the year round, we have lots of traffic lights, probably too many. There are hills and waterfalls, even hot springs, the coast isn't far away, and on top of that we have scant few Russians, Israelis, French or any other farang for that matter. Interesting comparisons .
  8. Usually near instantaneous from Singapore, the SMS from my Thai bank often arrives just ahead of the one from my bank in Singapore saying the money went to Wise.
  9. Not an increase for all currencies. For Singapore Dollars, above SGD2,500 the cost of transfers has actually fallen. Whilst the fixed fee part of their charges has increased, the variable fee has been reduced. So for transfers below SGD2,500 you'll pay a little more, but for larger transfers you'll pay less.
  10. That's only as good as your horizon.
  11. It was fine up until May 13th, it'll get fixed at some point, it's not the first time it's been broken. The Meteoblue website has satellite and radar data, look under weather maps. https://www.meteoblue.com/en/weather/week/ranot_thailand_1607068
  12. What has Dubai and UAE got to do with Malaysia or Indonesia? It's as facile as making a match between Russia and the USA because they're both Christian.
  13. I've lived and worked in both Malaysia (3 years) and Indonesia (8 years), I wouldn't consider either of them unstable. I enjoyed both and made some good friends. Unfortunately westerners view all Muslims as the same, mostly based on what they see in the media rather than any real life experience.
  14. Red meat topic. Ding ding ding, slather slather
  15. No, you just request one in the Kbank app and you get a card number, exp date and CVV number. It's a debit card but works fine with Spotify and online transactions.
  16. You can add to phone account if it's postpaid. If you're on a prepaid phone you can't. I put Netflix on my AIS account, Spotify was on AIS but their agreement ended and I moved it to my Kbank virtual card.
  17. I've never seen rats 'sitting under the table waiting for scraps' anywhere in Thailand nevermind Hat Yai. Cats under tables, but no rats.
  18. They have reorganized the local forum and Thai news section. Wherever it was it's certainly now in the Southern News section. As for rats in Hat Yai, I seem to recall your comments from many years ago. It jars with me now as it did then. I see no more rats on the streets here than I do in Bangkok or elsewhere in Thailand ditto roaches and I've lived twenty years in Hat Yai.
  19. That was very much the problem. That corner plot is cleared for future development. In the meantime they basically had a solid perimeter of billboarding, which with the high winds on Sunday set sail directly for the power lines. Total traffic chaos Sunday night with the intersection of two main roads closed to all traffic.
  20. Nope, plenty of good restaurants without loud or live music in Hat Yai, plenty that have too. Never a problem when I visit Bangkok either. Suggest you widen your search parameters.
  21. He doesn't look the sharpest knife in the drawer
  22. Likewise, but I've also started to be a more thoughtful with how much money I remit to my Thai accounts.
  23. Nah, it was Matilda their new AI receptionist.
  24. I thought that was the whole idea, prison isn't supposed to be nice!
  25. Is there any need for these images? Unless they're pertinent to the story leave them out.
