  2. I've been a Linux user for 12 years and have never had an issue, there is a basic firewall that comes with most distros, I'm currently using Linux Mint, this I have enabled, but I don't have any antivirus/malware software. It's not easy for malware to thrive in the Linux environment, nothing is going to run unless you're prone to typing in your sudo password without thinking, most people don't.
  3. Singha is streets ahead of Buttwiper! Singha is drinkable, Buttwiper is just unpleasant gnat's wee. .
  4. Hat Yai has good air quality most of the year. Except when the burning season in Indonesia goes wild, then we can sometimes get the 'Haze' on days in August through September. Generally anywhere on the peninsular has reasonably good air quality because there's usually a breeze of clean air coming off the sea. BTW those city population numbers are only part of the picture. Hat Yai for example, the figure of 157K is for Mueang Hat Yai, but the city in reality includes several adjoining districts; Khuan Lang, Kho Hong, Klong Hae, Ta Chang, Ban Phru. So the actual population of greater Hat Yai is over 400k. The same is true of Chiang Mai, Korat etc. .
  5. Singapore $ to THB fee increase is 0.06% I don't think I'll lose any sleep.
  6. I've 2 GiffGaff sims I keep alive, they usually connect to AIS because that's the stronger signal here, however they do sometimes connect to Dtac, or one on AIS and one on Dtac. So both networks are available.
  7. Yes, the Buttwiper is a waste of space
  8. Malaysians & Singaporeans have deeper pockets
  9. In the spirit of research, last night I checked out a pint of Guinness in the Post Laser Disc Pub here in Hat Yai. Not a bad pint at all, though at Bht265 it ought to be good.
  10. Southern Thailand isn't Afghanistan. Though many Muslim women do wear a tudong or hijab, which is a head scarf and doesn't cover the face. There are a few that wear an abaya and even fewer the niqab, full length cloaks and veils that cover the face but not the eyes. I've never seen anyone in a burqa. A few Muslim men wear a thobe, the long ankle length shirt, together with the little cap or kufi, they're the ones accompanied by a wife in an abaya or niqab. But there is no compulsory dress code down here. .
  11. Three quarters of the population are Malay-Muslims, so Islam is already the majority religion.
  12. Where's the confusion the OP asked "What is the best UK sim card to use in Thailand" (my emphasis) you responded with "I used to use Giffgaff and still have 2 active Sims but o2 signal which they use is poor where I'm moving to shortly" - O2 is the network GiffGaff use in the UK, which has no relevance to the Thailand.
  13. Mine is still working, I pay Spotify with it monthly. There's no link for the K-Online Debit card from the app, but you can access from the online bank website. As I said mine is valid though there appear to be changes coming. The website has the following message: To Apply New K Online Debit Card will be available soon! Existing customers can normally make transactions.
  14. O2? The question was use in Thailand, GiffGaff works fine on AIS.
  15. ManUre Man<deleted>ty Arsenal I keep hoping.
  16. Indeed Bud Light is highly debatable.
  17. I thought the sight of money changers had the exact opposite effect! John 2:13-16
  18. Probably best to phone around. Occupancy rates are climbing since the border opened and the Thai Pass got dumped. Lots of Malaysians back in town, but they're generally weekends only, so a paying guest for a month should be able to secure a good deal. Suggest you work out which hotels are best suited for facilities and location then give them a call.
  19. All the stuff sold here, and indeed most of the Guinness sold outside of Ireland, is nitrokeg. So dispensed very cold using a mix of 75% nitrogen and 25% CO2. The use of mainly nitrogen gives a smoother taste and tighter creamier head. The beer is pasteurised to give a longer shelf life. Guinness brewed in Malaysia is in bottles only and has a very different taste.
  20. What on earth is all this drivel, what exactly does ‘thrive for excellence’ mean, or is it supposed to 'strive for excellence'.
  21. Well it isn't is it? This isn't a debate Thais are having, this is a 'debate', if you can call it that, largely amongst foreigners. It's a issue primarily in areas with significant concentrations of western tourists and expats, and much of the for and against is based on political outlook rather than science. If you venture into areas away from westerners, Hat Yai for example, mask wearing is still near 100%. I'm perfectly happy to continue wearing a mask, up until last week I'd not had a cold or flu in two years, that's until my granddaughter brought a nasty flu back from school. Mask wearing at school is enforced, though not in the food court.
  22. That's because the UK economy is in an even bigger hole than Thailand - expect more pain for the GBPeso.
