For me it's 50 / 50 My home city in the UK was voted the most beautiful city in the world, with Venice second....which was a shock to me! I have lived in Thailand over 20 years full time. Never went back to UK. However, due to family things I have had to go back 3 times over last 2 years and, to be honest, I was amazed how much I enjoyed it back there....so much so I'm thinking of moving back. The food is much better than 20 years ago, the cost of farang food is cheaper...so are toiletries and cosmetics, services are better quality, and there is no confusion when talking to people. Here in Thailand the main reason I am staying is cost of living. No council tax, no crazy electronic or gas prices, and eating Thai food is so cheap. I can have a big house with nice big garden..and swimming pool too! But I feel bored here now. Much of the magic and novelty of the place has worn off. I find the weather too hot, and my social circle has shrunk over the years. The beautiful rural village I live in has become overdevelop with housing and too much traffic, with no protection for the countryside or nature....and too much NOISE from parties. Also, I hate doing the visas and paperwork...even though it's quite easy, it makes me feel insecure..like if anything went wrong there would be a lot of inconvenience and stress....I also hate the corruption here. So I am on the fence at the moment.

Why is it only old white straight men that have this problem with 'woke' people? They are feeling inadequate....all their lives they held the power, to bully and control people to conform to their views. Now they feel insecure and out of their small narrow minded comfort zone. They keep ranting about 'woke' and getting angry, belittling people, and acting like a spoilt child that is not getting their way. They complain woke people are oversensitive and weak...yet their can't see the irony of how they are acting looks cringe worthy and embarrassing these days...... Realistically, I would rather have a society of caring and sensitive people who care about others, even if I find them a bit strange, than hateful bigoted old men who nasty and close minded. If you want that go and live in some dictatorship or strict Muslim country.

If op or you were with a group of men and getting to know the group to be friends with, and one was gay, then you would tell him you did not want to be his friend....and the reason was that he was gay? There is news that China is locking down cities again in their zero COVID policy. How are these Chinese getting out to come to Thailand? Well, I guess one good thing is so long as some can sneak out or pay their way out...China will never be free from Covid...(as these travelling ones will keep bringing COVID back into China.)..and keep the country in lockdown....

Reading OPs posts they seem passive aggressive and sneaky racist digs. I have 2 Farang friends and many more Thai friends....the majority men. There is no problem. They are human like the rear of us! And it's not about them being educated or well off either. Most of my friends are from your average rural village. Also not about age, I have young and very old Thai friends. In fact the older ones are the nicest and most gently kind ones. OP of you want Thai male friends then find some you have common interests with. For example, I am interested in farming and animals. So many of my Thai friends I met along those lines, like buying chickens of someone, or getting some help harvest my fruit orchards. I also like socialising and drinking sometimes, so others I ment at my local bars. Others I never at village parties or through neighbours. Once you know a few you get to know their friends too. Mixing with neighbours and going to local temple or village events is also good to meet people. And OP, seems a bit homophobic to say you don't want to be friends with gay Thai men. Gay men and lady boys mix together with straight men here more easily than back home and there is no issue with it....they just add to the variety of the social circle .

I don't eat any meat. I have been vegan for a out 15 years. I definitely don't want to eat Thai street dogs. All you animal lovers that think every animal has the right to live are so 2 faced. I bet you are eating meat or dairy products...and what do you care about the poor animals that were killed and ground up to make the dog food that is being fed to the street dogs?

I am in Chiang Mai and have used 3 different government hospitals and all the doctors and make of the staff could speak enough English to understand me.

I have not found that a problem. I always use government hospitals and I have no Thai interpreter lol. The doctors all seem to be able to speak good English....they must learn it when they are studying. Maybe a very small private hospital would be different...like some of the nurses could not speak English well, but OP should have no problem with a large government hospital.

This is exactly what I am taking about, and what some (usually fanatic Christians) don't see to care about. This is a tragic and very sad story.
