  1. And also where I have have a real home and settle down long term...where my assets will be secure and I can stay there long term without having to leave and return to the country ever few months.
  2. Let them settle in for a week before you start taming them. If they are adults it will be difficult. Babies and hand reared birds are easy to tame. Sit and read a book or use you phone near the cage so they get used to you being around them. After they are comfortable with you being near the cage (may take a few weeks), start offering them food treats they like...like millet spray or sunflower seeds. At this stage take out the most of the sunflower seeds in their seed mix so they will only get them from you hand feeding them. Once they are used to taking treats from you through the cage bars then try putting your hand in the cage with the treats. Do not move you had toward them...always let them come to you. It will take time and patience. They might not get tame enough for you to pet them...but they should get tame enough to fly to your hand, perch on your hand to take treats, and not freak out and be scared of your near them. Please make sure they get lots of vegetables to eat too....as seed mix is not a balanced diet and will make them sick in the long run if they are only fed this. They should also have mineral blocks and cuttlefish bones to chew...and natural tree branches to chew and keep their feet healthy. You can spray them with water each day to help them keep their feathers in good condition (if they won't take to bathing in a dish of water) Also allow them free flight in a secure room. They will get obese if kept in a cage. They will go back into the cage on their own when they get hungry. Do not chase them about to catch them...this will make them terrified of you. Good luck with your beautiful new pets.
  3. I would consider it racist if the cops were referring to Asians as something like 'coffee bean' or 'coconut'. Identify someone as Asian is not racist. Calling white people after a white coloured fruit seems a bit more racist though.
  4. Can you get proper retirement visa there? Can you buy and own a condo / house / car etc? Do you have to leave and return to the country ever few months or yearly? Can you get legit legal long stay visa without fiddling it? Can you have a bank account? I just like to have security that I won't suddenly be kicked out of the country and loose my home.
  5. Chiang Mai nearly 40 degrees C here...no breeze. Hoping for the cold front to turn up.
  6. OP you are thinking too much. Really, the people who have these beliefs and rituals are making it up as they go along and don't know the detailed reasons why they do these things themselves ...they just carry on what they were told to do by their parents and them by their parents etc. You will find each household / person does things differently for the spirits. There are general beliefs though. 1. The spirit shelf inside the house is for the ancestors. Offerings are put on that for the family ancestors. 2. The spirit houses in the garden are for the spirits who live on the land. They are supernatural and were never human. Offerings are put on that to keep them content and stop them making trouble for the people who live in the house. You can touch what you want...so long are you are respectful. You can offer what you want to the ancestors or spirits...whatever you think they might like. Our spirit house has toy cars for them to travel about in as well as the usual stone elephants and horses and model dancers for their entertainment. The Red soda is a substitute for blood. In the old days they used real blood until some king in the past told people to stop doing that. The offerings are made on special days or when the people living on the land are worried the spirits are causing them bad luck etc. Last thing...when offering the incense sticks they should always be in 3s. Rule is that spirits don't like things in equal numbers.
  7. I don't like it when a Thai person calls me 'sir'. It's creepy.
  8. Any photos of the celebrations of n CM? Wondering if it's worth going into the city to throw some water for a couple of hours? Won't bother if it's too quiet.
  9. But those dogs are not nuzzled or on leashes? Off to a good start I see ha ha. Also all that work and regulations... .yet how many cases of people getting rabies are there there?
  10. And I guess no one will be held accountable for starving them to death.
  11. This just makes Americans look stupid and backward...and nasty. How about they stop teaching about straight then....and also religion...Jesus and that stuff? How are people so pretty and mean?
  12. Fat people stop making these excuses for yourselves. You are fat because you eat too much. That is all it is. If you don't like being fat stop eating so much food and do some exercise.
  13. OP...what do you think people did before plastic water bottles? Everybody does not need then. Take water in metal flasks or jugs / flasks that you wash and re use.
  14. Ans when the elderly retired expat can not get the work permit they will come and confiscate his car?
  15. So you can renew these indefinitely? I would not risk buying a house or condo there...to live permanently, as it seems that the rules can change anytime and I night not be able to stay.
  16. So what are you going to do with your children when you go exploring to this other country to find women? Seems like your life is farm from a stable environment to raise kids in. The other countries recommend on this thread have no retirement visas and you will have to travel in and out of the country ever few weeks to be able to stay there. That does not sound fun to me in the long run. Also how are you going to get visas for your children?
  17. Yes, hope not too. In the west young people seem to get lighter punishments... especially if they are female..
  18. Hmmmm ...plenty the same and worse happens in America and other countries, but guess some people can't resist the good old Thai bash comment.
  19. Are you vegan then? The animals you eat have been through a life of hell and a torturous death much more than a dog getting poisoned......
  20. That woman is treating her dogs like material possessions, not living animals. She is being cruel to them keeping them in cages or on chains all the time. Dogs need to run and explore. She is also not considerate to her neighbours with having her dogs repeatedly escape and cause problems. She is the one at fault for the dogs deaths here, not the dogs, not even the man who poisoned them (although I don't agree with his methods).
