doo tua-eng - "look at yourself"
doo-eng is "look for yourself"

I don't get this argument at all.
I would say that an agnostic is an atheist who thinks scientifically.
1. Agnosticism does NOT say belief in god and non-god is equiprobable. This is an error. An agnostic can assign a lower probability to the existence of god than to god's non-existence. It could be 1% or 0.1% or 0.0000000000000000000000000000001%. It could be 50% but doesn't have to be. It can't be 0%, the atheist's position, because you cannot disprove the existence of anything.
This is not scientific, which is inductive, this is prop-logic, which is deductive (should try to be..). Agnosticism is not a scientific stance in the sense that jingthing and I were discussing it. We are at risk of going very off track into all sorts of confusion.
Jingthing begins with whether or not atheism is a belief or lack of belief and we continue into whether or not agnosticism is a suitable stance for the anti-dogmatic. We are talking in terms of propositions here.
-
It depends on how you come at it. Agnosticism has many definitions, but they are along the same lines of epistemology. We might call them meta-definitions (urg). It is strictly speaking a methodology rather than a belief.
If we talk science, we have to use one definition
If we talk formal logic, we have to use another
If we talk cognitivism, we have to use another.
and so on
What is important is to know what path you are already on in any given conversation. Oftentimes this is the first stumbling block for any discussion and why people can never agree, because they dont see that they are both talking from different paths.
Well, just be aware that you're misusing the term, Im sure you can find a better word to describe what I understand you wish to express. It's certainly not agnosticism, which implies only two possibilities to life.
The two possibilities you refer to, I take to be either:
life originated spotaneously; the scientific possibility, big bang et all
life the universe and everything had a creator, intelligent design, a deity
Would this be correct?
It would be correct if you have decided to use those parameters, certainly. It's all about what you agree to discuss in the first place.
-
Yes, Agreed!

You managed to quote me before I self edited out the yanqui bit.. !
Gotta love culture.

Oh, sorry. Then I misunderstood you. Yes, these days, we are quite welcome (I suppose, our wallets/purses..moreso!)

Respectfully, it's not an argument, it is logic.
Any serious thinker is never "totally convinced" about anything, as long as we are honest in our best available estimate then that is good enough until new information comes along.
I agree the conviction of some people, in all walks of life, can be frustrating. Arrogance is something we have to train ourselves to ignore (in ourselves and in others), if we want to be honest thinkers. Arrogance unfortunately, does not say anything about the truth value of a particular statement.
The particular problem with agnosticism, is that while it appeals greatly to people who want to appear as being "fair", it is in fact logically not a tenable position. It is a historical piece of thinking, important to teach students to help their general understanding of the evolution of these ideas, but long ago dismissed as anything that stands up. The idea that God or not-god is equiprobable is to ignore, just for starters, all the other possible gods and religions.
-
That's awesome. Seriously, you win.
-
Agnostics are people who failed high school maths.
Sure but on the other hand atheists think these unknowable matters are important enough to have ANY firm belief about. A firm belief in NO belief is a kind of belief. There is merit to the agnostic position as well. It is a more pure stance against TRUE BELIEVERS of any kind.Or to put more (laughingly) blunt: "Agnostics are atheists without balls"
No, it's the lack of a belief. This is very different to a belief.

Go to Narz on sukhumvit or route66 on RCA. Slim/flixx on RCA is fine too for your kind of partying. Clubs on thonglor soi 10 are filled with hi-so kids but you'll be fine if you're farang. The other typical party places, such as scratch dog, wip and insomnia are for the late night whore mongers.
All correct apart from saying that Wip is for whoremongers... lol. And, I dont think you can go "completely wild" in RCA, let's be honest route is table to table, Slim is live music table to table and flix is table to table electronic.. Ive never seen anyone actually get ON any of those tables.. and I fully expect I never will.
Wip is 99% Thai and is not cheap. Bottle of whiskey the norm.
Yes. What's your point? Have you? I lived on RCA for 6 months. Care to chime in with better advice?
learn to read, already did. All clubs you mentioned are VERY VERY VERY unsuitable for the OP, not to mention the ones in Thonglor DO NOT welcome foreigners, while they tolerate some, the clubs are not for us.
RCA clubs cater for uni students NOT for foreigners.
Wow the whole 6 months??? whats your address? will send you a 6 months award
Lemoncake, sorry you are also quite wrong..
RCA welcomes foreigners (you may need to pay a surchagre for Flix and Slim these days, but still very welcome.)
Thong lo clubs welcome foreigners, there is not a single one I have not been in and I visit a handful on a weekly basis as do many other foreigners.

I like to be a bit more blunt then you , kinda depends on the person and situation. But i don't let people walk over me when they insult me.
Just imagine "hey a hole"
your response "could you talk a bit more politely"
Wonder who looks foolish there.
But in the end its up to everyone to decide what is an appropriate reaction, and that of course depends on who you are. But what you are saying is the least confronting for sure.
The guy who replies in your hypothetical situation is obviously an adult, and makes the original guy look foolish and immature.
Think about it- what would you say to a child? Would you tell the child something blunt? No, you would answer like above. What's worse to an adult who is trying to offend you, than being made to feel like a child?
Unfortunately, I think you actually believe the opposite. I think you believe that the non-foolish response is to raise to his bait hook line and sinker? Correct me if I am wrong..

Most intelligent humour in Thailand comes from word play. Incidentally, epic OP.

I understand how you feel Jingthing, I honestly cannot stand not knowing for sure what is being said around me. I am a control freak in a way. So, I quickly learned to understand as best I could.. might be the right solution for you too. One thing I do notice is that, paranoia from this situation often leads to thinking one is always the topic of conversation, when often we are largely ignored. These days it is rare indeed that I ever think someone is insulting me and I wonder if that is related to the fact I now speak Thai as well as most people in service roles.

Large distances on Earth
For example, given the equatorial circumference of the Earth is about 40,075 km and c about 300,000 km/s, the theoretical shortest time for a piece of information to travel half the globe along the surface is about 67 milliseconds. When light is travelling around the globe in an optical fibre, the actual transit time is longer, in part because the speed of light is slower by about 35% in an optical fibre, depending on its refractive index n.[71] Furthermore, straight lines rarely occur in global communications situations, and delays are created when the signal passes through an electronic switch or signal regenerator.
-
You misunderstand me. I have the same speed as you, but look at the link I gave you- my ping is 10ms and yours is 200. If your ping remains that bad you should run a traceroute to further diagnose, although I suspect it was a temporary network issue.
err. sorry to disappoint you but 10ms to LA is beyond the realm of physics. Your 10ms sadly is to your ISP invisible caching/proxy server (Located in Thailand to reduce TRUE's international bandwidth costs)
.
Your Real PING to LA on true will be around 250ms-380ms.
TOT do not use caching servers hence the good REALISTIC ping's for a fibre connection to LA from here.
You could do the maths distance to LA and speed of electrons. 10ms would be way faster than the speed of light..
In conclusion your speed result and your ping result are in a word fake
Nope, the clue is in the app being flash...
have a think....
what does flash have available to it...
Ill give you a second clue...
think layers...
...
in your own time.
spoilsport.

-
Great speed, but is it worth paying 9,000/baht per month for?
Definitely not. That's why the price is 1200.
-
LA is interesting, that ping is a bit out of whack with your results.
I am using fiber optic and my Isp has guaranteed me with better then average international bandwidth and the results are not fake

I bottle it deep down and plan to have a full-scale breakdown at 40.

Well, I went to Laos, I got a double entry. I got it back the next day at midday. No problems and no fuss.. thanks for advice.

Be careful however, with a little understanding it is very easy to get the wrong jist of what is being said. Hell, even with a lot of understanding, it is easy to get the wrong message. Ive embarassed myself more than once taking a stance on something I thought I heard only to be proven wrong. Unless you are 100% positive, assume the best. Anything else is a waste of time. As is, quite frankly, being annoyed by someone whose job it is to sell shoes.

Ok, just thought of another angle for you, namely the Gay areas. You can pretty much do whatever you want in these clubs:
Silom soi 4 (50% of the clubs are gay, and it should be obvious which)
Silom soi 2 (all gay, small alleyway with bomb scanner leads to opening courtyard with clubs)
Then, if you get chatting to some locals in there, they will more than likely be happy to take you to another street, which Im afraid I cannot remember, which has about 6 more gay dance/bar/restaurant clubs, which as I recall would definitely not mind a couple of western girls going wild, because frankly you see more flesh than clothes in most thai gay dance clubs and they are very welcoming to girls in general.
There are also gay gogo/brothel bars but unless you want to buy a man for the night, you should avoid them. In fact, even if you want to buy a man for the night, I would avoid them. Instead, ask for "Bar Host". It will be something very different and if you dont mind splashing a bit of cash you might very much thank me.
Obviously, judge the mood and atmosphere of each club on its own merits.. and keep safe.
