The REAL EV vehicle discussion thread.....
macahoom replied to transam's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
If you mean the charger in your car, this makes sense (possibly). If you mean the 7.4kW wall box in your garage, that wouldn't work well. People would just granny charge (2.2kW) by plugging into a normal outlet instead. -
Maybe not so easy. Worldwide, Governments rely on the income from vehicle fuel tax. EV sales will grow rapidly over the next few years and that fuel revenue will be gone. EV owners will have to be taxed to make up the shortfall. But how? Sure, governments can tax the use of public chargers, but how is any government going to tax an EV owner for charging at home. Even more difficult: taxing those owners who charge using solar.

Where oh where do you get these ideas from? Someone will be along shortly with maps showing charging stations in Thailand. Or maybe, like me, they've had enough of this silly talk and won't bother.

Just to clarify: The MG ZS EV does not have one pedal driving like some EVs have. The MG slows to 8kph and then you must press the brake pedal to come to a complete stop. With one pedal driving, the car comes to a complete stop without the driver having to touch the brake pedal at all.

When I read your post I assumed G-Wiz could not be the actual name of the car and you were just having a laugh. But no, Google reveals that’s the real name! 20 years ago? I like your pioneering style! -
My MG slows the car down if it believes I am entering a corner too quickly. Far too sensitive; feels like my granny is driving the car. That said, I believe there are three sensitivity levels and I had it on high. I didn't bother trying the lower levels. I just turned this particular feature off. Simple!

I'm not sure if you're asking a question here. But in my car, when I power it up, the radio plays at the same volume I left it at, if that helps. -

Sorry, I don't connect my phone to the MG so I can't help with this. -

Yes. My 2019 MGZS EV does exactly what you describe. It's a common complaint, but a minor annoyance. -
There's really only one thing I like, or love, the app for: turning on the aircon remotely five minutes before getting into the car. I suppose checking the tyre pressures remotely is quite handy, but that's about it. Not sure if the EP has iSmart.

In my experience, there’s no difference in power between flooring it in Eco or Sport modes. Both accelerate at the same rate. The difference is the response is more smooth in Eco. Note: my car is the older model and things could be different in the latest, although I doubt it. -

There are three modes: Eco/Normal/Sport. Sport has the most responsive accelerator pedal, Eco the least. So it, supposedly, makes you drive less aggressively and therefore save battery. I believe the Aircon is supposed to be not as cool on Eco, but I have never noticed any difference. -
This may have been true in years past, but things have changed and, these days, lots of Chinese stuff is excellent. Just a couple of examples: Xiaomi electronics. My MG EV.

Sorry, I made a mistake above. It should read: You’ll notice it will change if you change your Mode settings or turn off/on your AC. -

This is the predicted remaining range based on your recent driving. Sometimes called the GOM - Guess-O-Meter. You’ll notice it will change if you change your KERS settings or turn off/on your AC. -

In case you don’t know and are wondering what the “AC 1x16A (3.7kW) 13h30m” in your chart above refers to, some hotels in Thailand have AC wallboxes that are only 3.7kW. That's the only places I've come across them. -

Opinions on this vary. Certainly, wallbox and granny are better for your battery than rapid DC charging. -

To add to this. I have read lots about the MGZS EV on a couple of UK forums since getting my car over 3 years ago. Plenty of UK owners use only granny charging at home. -

Granny charging is not only for emergencies. You do not need a 7.4Kw wallbox. Granny charging is perfectly safe using the supplied cable. If you need to use an extension, keep it as short as possible, fully unwound and designed to handle 16A, max load 3500w. I carry a 20 meter extension with me for hotels that have no charging docks. -

If my memory of 'A-level' physics and chemistry from 54 years ago is correct, I think you mean to say "because it's the smallest of all atoms." There's no such thing as a molecule of hydrogen; it's an element. Edit: I just Googled this, and maybe I'm wrong and it is possible to have a molecule of hydrogen. Sorry! -
Looking forward to your review of the car. I'll be very surprised if you don't love it.

I don't know about all dealerships, but on one occasion I charged a non-MG car at an MG charging dock at a dealership - one of the red, DC ones. There is a red MG one in the car park of a hotel in Prachuap Khiri Khan. Presumably, that one can be used by any car.
