  1. I have hundreds of trees everywhere it looks like a forest very nice - Concrete house CPAC roof tiles so I thought i was basically safe - just rethinking...
  2. How often does Chiang mai have large wildfires in the city? I ask because of the current fire in Hawaii which caught people by surprise. I would take a guess at once every hundred years but I really don't know... My house is concrete which is good and no wooden houses nearby but lots of trees and bamboo etc (I am on a farm)
  3. Agreed go with iherb but free shipping comes and goes...
  4. I think you mean a small number of Americans complain. I am American and have American friends here - none complain..
  5. Correct! But not only food hotels etc.. Very normal in hawaii and not a secret https://www.hawaiiactivities.com/travelguide/kamaaina-discounts-deals/
  6. I think the theory is taht most foreigners dont live here so dont pay much in the way of taxes - some do of course but not so many... On a practical matter the fees are so small that they are not a hardship or if they are you have a different problem... I used to live in Hawaii and discounted rates for locals was normal for hotels and restaurants. National parks in America are discounted for senior citizens so across the world lots of different prices for different people - very normal - nothing to get upset about..
  7. I thought the moved mostly within China not too other countries? There are some in Taiwan and Malaysia and a few here and there but didn't they move voluntarily from poverty not by force of war and discrimination? So unless I am wrong and they were forced to move by war etc there is no similarity with the Jewish movements over history... Note - I am often wrong according to my teenagers - smiling...
  8. Yes, study is important but what encourages the study? In history the Jews had to move countries and maybe this caused them to value portable wealth? Regarding armchair studying reminds me of Lawrence in the Oppenheimer movie I saw the other day - seemed like a friendly rivalry between Theory and experiments... Both are needed. Personally I think the theory is more important but again both are needed...
  9. i think if you take a few minutes to search you can find great scientists in all religions... Sometimes it seems like certain cultures have more scientists than others Jews are around 2/10ths of a percent of the worlds population yet 20% of the Nobel prize winners are Jewish. Why is that? Ahmed Hassan Zewail an Egyptian and American chemist, known as the "father of femtochemistry" was awarded the 1999 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his work on femtochemistry
  10. Muhammad ibn Musa al-Khwarizmi was a 9th-century Muslim mathematician and astronomer. He is known as the “father of algebra”, a word derived from the title of his book, Kitab al-Jabr. Many Muslims were leading scientists around a thousand years ago. This is a widely known fact - surprising that you would ask - I learned this in high school years ago in California.
  11. "The case was raised with the Central Administrative Court back in 2016 by serial petition Srisuwan Janya,..." Apparently known for many years. Buyers should have done their due dligence...
  12. A good idea. I have heard that the best workers are in Bangkok working on jobs for large buildings - good welders etc. But overall difficult to find good workers in small towns and teh advice of watching every step is a good one. A friend had a nice home built in CM and hired an outside engineer to check the work of all the columns and they all had to be redone.
  13. Razz, Good luck to you and your wife! A thought after she gets her severance pay - maybe open an online business?
  14. Consider a sole proprietorship using the treaty of Amity. I think the US Embassy paperwork may be free for a sole proprietorship a company maybe $60 plus paperwork? Maybe 2,000 Thai baht to file plus some other fees not expensive at all for a sole proprietorship...
  15. You are correct - but there are some really good posters here also who are polite and intelligent and thoughtful.
  16. Jogging in reasonable amounts seem to clearly be good for most people - for some there may be some issues so talking to your doctor can be useful. This article is from 2016 but is very balanced and easy to read. https://www.runnersworld.com/runners-stories/a20823603/what-to-know-about-running-and-your-heart/ A cardiologist in Hawaii Dr Jack Schaff was part of the movement to have cardiac patients include running a marathon in their rehab work. He was part of the creation of the Honolulu marathon. Disclosure I met him a long time ago at the Honolulu marathon running clinic and was very impressed with him and his research and results... For those who prefer to swim go for it!
  17. As an update had a network guy come out today to setup my new ASUS router in bridge mode with my other routers. All is well now - very happy. I didn't realize before today that you can setup a computer with both wifi and a LAN connection at the same time and the computer will automatically use whichever is faster which in my case will always be a LAN connection except for during a storm when the power goes out then I can use a data internet connection from my phone.
  18. Thank you for replying to my thread but not sure who you are taking to... The new computer I just bought is great and I am very happy with it! Has just what I need.
  19. Thank you for your suggestion but I found their website confusing - probably just me! Going to the Advice store was a really easy and pleasant experience with lots of service that you don't get online. I love shopping online for fast delivery and good prices and sometime selection but this recent experience has me leaning towards in person purchases...
  20. Thank you to everyone who posted! I got lucky and found that Advice in Chiang mai has a small retail shop but a large local warehouse so i could set and look at `100s of models already made and pick just what I needed - fun experience. I go the best of both worlds a good price and great service! They setup the computer for me Windows -Office etc and walked me through home setup with a line video call. All went smoothly except I had an old monitor with the screw-in type connection which y digital copter did not support. Luckily I had another newer monitor on hand which worked well. Then they helped me find an ASUS router expert to setup in bridge mode 4 routers on my farm. All in all I had fund shopping! Thanks again!
