And you look like what on an Aerox ????  ‘you know what they say about scooters and fat girls’  !!!!

I had the 155cc ABS TriCity - thought it was an excellent bike - extremely convenient and stable for nipping around town - excellent front brakes and ABS.

I sold it after a year or so when my mates saw me riding it !!!  (just like a fat girl, great fun until....)

Anyway, I wouldn’t hesitate to swap out my 310 BMW for the 300cc Tricity if it became available in Thailand.

I look like a normal bloke riding Yamaha's best selling bike in Thailand.... The tri-city was such a white elephant, Yamaha have stopped selling them here.....

I can understand why you would want to swap to a Tri-City (warts n all) from yer GS - there are a lot of unhappy bunnies on here -  https://www.g310rforum.com/forums/2017-bmw-g310-r-gs-complaints-issues-problems.337/

Most books don't make money and mostly just serve as an ego-boost for the writer.

In which way, apart from revs otd and wears out more quickly and replacement parts are expensive.

    I've had both the Gen 1 and Gen 2  390 Dukes .....

And as OMF stated earlier, the Gen 2 was a great improvement - not only in looks, but addition of "ride by wire" and excellent TFT instrument pannel .......

"expensive parts" - compared to a honda or a Ducati ??

Honda has nothing to do with sheep they have led the way in every motorcycle type class KTM always a 5th or 6th KTM can not compete with Japanese tech.

In Thailand KTM dealers are a mess if you can find one.

    Yeh, absolute pants ....

    From Wikipedia:

" By the end of 2016, KTM had won more than 260 world championship titles, making the company one of the most successful brands in motorsports. KTM has claimed 96 MXGP, MX1 and MX2 world titles since 1974 and 114 E1, E2, E3 and Super Enduro world titles since 1990 "

You say that as if the situation with KTM in Thailand was better than what people in this thread described but then just echo the same thing: the dealer network is extremely weak. But first: noone really critized the bikes, KTM makes some really cool stuff. I loved the Duke I rode in the old land. Anyways, you said "it is possible to get KTM service in Thailand". Ok, but how about getting service from a dealer not hundreds of km away? I still don't know where the next dealer would be from Phuket or how I would find out without writing to someone on Facebook. BKK? There used to be a dealer here but they closed a few years ago. Now with Vroom/AAPICO becoming the new KTM importer and dealer there's a company that could be strong enough to build a dealer network that covers at least the minimal basics. But they will still have the import duty issue. So the prices of the bikes have to be high unless a trade deal can be struck with India. And so far, there exists only a Facebook account with vague promotional posts and a page with a press release. There's not even a proper website. The showroom also doesn't exist yet. Possibly because of Covid so let's give them more time, right now would really not be a good time to launch this. We'll have to wait and see what they will do in 2021. I want them to succeed. Any addition to Thailands motorcycle market would be more than welcome. And be it just because competition will improve things for us riders. Would love to see some Dukes on the road!

A few years ago, the price of ktm's reduced dramatically as a trade deal was struck between india & thailand ....

At the time a Duke 390 (original Generation 1 model), which was india made - went down from 340,000b to 199,000 Baht - and people (including myself) flocked to buy ....

Then the Gen 2 390 came out with loads of improvements - and the price went up to 210,000 baht, but many dealers sold them for the original 199,000b ..... .....

comparing a silimar priced Honda 500F to a Duke 390 would be like comparing supermarket ice cream to Ben and Jerries chocko mint chip ......

No one knows why the original importers "burn Rubber" stopped, but Vroom are set to start importing the indian made 200 / 390 range soon, and i assume a dealer network is already in the pipeline.....

i was at KTM Pattaya last week buying a service kit for my Gen 2  390 and asked the lady what was going on with "Vroom" and she said their launch had been delayed because of the virus.....

Hopefully the 390 Adventure will be available in Thailand later in the year ..... And if its anything like the 390 duke, it will knock rivals like the 500X into next week......

Also there is a new range of twin cyl, 60hp, "490" bikes (with 5 different models, including a supermoto) that will be available early 2021, and being indian made, will be imported into Thailand by Vroom, without import taxes ...... That new model will, imho be and absolute game changer ....

Some exiting times ahead for ktm in thailand over the next few months .....

ps - if you watch the video below - at 3m 45 sec - you hear the tester use a word you rarely hear from tests on similar bikes from Honda, suzuki and Yamaha etc:

    Consider the Yamaha MT03.

Fast (160km/hr) so no problem on the highway.

Much cheaper to buy and run than the Duc (Ducati are much more expensive to service and parts are premium priced)

A Yamaha can be serviced in every town.

I looked at and drove the Ducati but it felt cheaply made and a bit all or nothing in throttle action. Great for hooning about on - but not as good for day to day. I went with the Triumph Bonneville instead. (Unfortunately I wrote that off)

When I reach to the key rack now it's the MT03 I pick every time unless I'm planning a trip and need luggage.

Honda/Yamaha/Kawasaki are all much cheaper and easier to keep on the road also are easier to sell later.

I can't understand why you are comparing slow and relatively cheap bikes with the Duc, have you really thought through what you need as well as what you want?

Ultimately depends if you want a vanilla bike - of a choco mint chip bike (with strawberry sauce...)

    Is there dealer Pattaya?

    Yes Al ....

The Benelli / Royal Enfield dealers on the sukhumvit (just before you get to the Kawasaki dealers) have a ktm section with loads of original parts (and some new bikes for sale), and they do servicing too - i bought a service kit a few days ago for my Duke 390.

    .......

The girl there told me that the new "KTM Thailand" importer is about to launch ( havebeen putting it off cos of the virus).....

Once they kick off, no only they be offering the 2020 Duke 390 Adventure, but the greatly anticipated Duke/Adventure/RC/Supermoto 490 (twin cyl) range early next year.....

I think it's interesting that some guys here think they know exactly who has to pay and what your rights are.

Really? Do you know all the relevant Thai laws?

As far as I understand the OP rented the bike and I am sure there is somewhere in the rental contract that he has to pay for any damages of the bike. He wants to return a damaged bike. Someone has to pay for it. And maybe not only repair but also cost that the bike can't be used for x days.

The way I see it the OP has to pay for the damage of the bike because he had the bike when it was damaged.

That the bike was actually damaged because of someone else is not the problem of the bike owner. The company lend an undamaged bike and wants an undamaged bike or compensation back.

And does anybody here really know which insurance the rental company needs by law? Does he need 1st class insurance? Does he need other insurances? I don't know. And I won't assume he needs them.

Better check the law before you think you know the legal situation! Because maybe the rental guy does not want to screw you and maybe he likes to find a good solution for everybody. And when you treat him like he is the bad guy then this might not help.

You're obviously from the southern most tip of planet Zogg ?

I have to call Mitsubushi to find out. In the US, warranty goes with the car not the owner. THe same is true for the third party extended Warranty.

instead of listing to the "doom and gloom" merchants on here - why not go and have a look at the car and chat your warranty concerns over with the owner...

I cannot see warranties not being fully transferable, otherwise the price of second hand cars would plumbet.

i know in the past i have bought a second hand car (and scooter) and had a problem and was fixed under warranty ....

So i'd be taking what "vocal Neil" said with a pinch of salt ...

When the owner died, the bar died along with him.

The staff kept it running, but were never going to invest in the business, so it just got shoddier and shoddier, and eventually even the loyalest of customers stopped going.

There was nothing sudden about the closing of P&W no matter what some say.

when the owner died - the freehold and the contents were transferred over to his widow......

The reason it closed was not that "it went out of business", but that she sold the freehold - the new owners, decided to close the place - and are now offering it up for rent  .....
