my comment was about having a Duke 390 as a daily driver in BKK - Madness !
Other than that its a fine motorcycle....
He does have a point !
i've driven my Duke 390 into BKK a couple of times to go to Burn Rubber (the main KTM dealer) .
The BKK traffic is a nightmare - i absolutely hated it and couldn't wait to get out...
So with a clean sheet - Living in BKK and looking for a "daily driver" - An Aerox would be my first choice.
A Duke 390 would have cost over THREE times what an Aerox would - and imho (40 years riding over 50 bikes under my belt) - the Aerox would be 3 times easier to ride, and the Duke 390 would cost well over THREE times to service / maintain....
If you wanted to sell your 390 today - i guess you would be looking at loosing 120-130,000 baht - You could buy TWO Aerox's for that.....
If you'd have bought an Aerox at the same time you bought your Duke, and wanted to sell it today, it would have lost about 15-20,000 Baht .....
When you do the maths - Mr Piston broke does have a point !
ps: I love my Gen 2 390 - but its for the back road twisties not for riding in heavy traffic....
On a lighter note:
a video of Poppa on his new Duke 390 - showing a BMW S1000RR how to go round corners (lol) .....

Used to 15 HP,
so 25 ponies should entertain me for a while.

[I think 200 & 390 share same frame, not sure.]
Pappa .....
yes - the 125, 200 and 390 share the same frame ........
The 200 wouldn't be a bad choice...... i've ridden one and quite lively considering...
as far as servicing - The ktm / mityon place in Pattaya Tai still doing servicing......but not at "papa friendly prices"
Your usual guys on 3rd Road can do it - They did my 390 a couple of weeks ago... just need to get the oil filter from Lazada - https://www.lazada.co.th/products/full-razer-fr-155-ktm-duke-200-290390690-i264448718-s410534025.html?spm=a2o4m.searchlist.list.5.6aec465dAJTpNP&search=1 -
Can get a cleanable / copy K & N filter, meaning you won't be chasing around for KTM paper ones......
I've had both the Gen 1 and Gen 2 390's ......
As far as the Gen 1 390 goes - they don't run well "out of the box" - very lumpy and juddery - i ended up changing the rear sprocket ( - 3 teeth), having the exhaust Cat removed to help it breathe better and having it re-mapped at the KTM dealers in BKK - in an attempt to get it to behave like a normal bike - a load of faffing around that i wouldn't want to repeat......
The Gen 2 390 is a great improvement over the Gen 1 bike - firstly a -3 sprocket elimates the lumpy and juddery, without faffing about with re-map/zorst mods - Gen 2 also has ride by wire throttle, nice TFT display, improved brakes / suspension, Michelin Pilot tyres, which last 3 times longer than the Pirelli's fitted to the Gen 1 bikes - also the foot pegs are set back slightly, giving it a great riding position......
As far as which bike to go for ? - well if your budget is 60k - then that 200 will do you fine ...... if its 100k then the 390 you mentioned is possible, but be preparted to freck around with it ....... if you can stretch to the 125-130k that the Gen 2 390's seem to be going for - then plump for that ......
I'm certainly very pleased with mine........
Message me if you want any more info........

Riding a motorcycle is definitely a "no"! Driving should be all right and so is walking the dog. Just take care not to get into any untoward incidences. Yea, I'll say just lay low until it's time to head out.
Since the others mentioned getting an emergency passport, you might also need to consider that you'll be spending a couple of days in Bangkok.
Same caution applies: don't go out unnecessarily, don't invite trouble.
might be worth mentioning that hotels will insist on seeing (and recording details of) a passport, before allowing you to stay - plus booking a flight / bus ticket may also need you to show a passort for ID purposes (as i assume you don't have a driving licence........

A UK motoring show a few years back did back dino tests comparing different brands of 95 to 91 stuff....
Their conclusion was that the only significant difference came from Shell 95 V Power..
Personally i always use it - its a nat's nakka more expensive than their 91 and i like to think i get a tad more grunt,,,

Would be an Aerox suitable for a 168 cm tall woman? The seat is quite high so I am curious if my wife would be able to reach the ground by her feet waiting for traffic lights to change. I read one indonesian test where the rider was 168 cm short and as they said he could easily put his feet flat on the groud sitting on it. Hard to believe.
The best thing to do is to go to the Yamaha dealers and get her to sit on it....if its a tad to big - remember you could get the seat re-modeled as its fairly thick...

Posting this on behalf of a friend who's not on the internet...
British passport, age 60+
Came to Thailand just over 2 months ago with a 2 month tourist visa (staying in Pattaya)...
Last week extended his visa for another 30 days at Jomtien immigration....
His plan was as the extension is expiring to do a border run to Cambodia and get another 30 days (and then extend that at Jomtien immigration for a final 30 days before going home)...
So he goes to a visa run company only to be told "maximum 15 days on border runs" - decides to get a second opinion and is told, he will get 30 days !
My question to you learned folk:
If he does the Cambodia visa run - will he get 15 or 30 days ?
does he have to take money with him to show the immigration officials ? - if so - how much ??
And lastly - Regardless of weather he gets 15 or 30 days - can he still extend at Jomtien immigration for a futher 30 days ?
Thanks in advance.

I don’t understand the point of these bikes, people say great for around town? Surely one would want a scooter with storage for helmet / groceries etc?
The don’t have a purpose IMO..

Scooter can't be beat for round town...
And if you don't agree - try an Aerox R model for a week and report your findings...

Sigh! You are not the only person confused. Even someone who has been successfully navigating the TM30 maze for years at one immigration office cannot state with confidence what will happen at another office.
Here are a couple of factors...
First, if you have a long term lease on a house or condo, you are the 'possessor' of the property. While the owner of the property could submit the TM30 notification, most immigration offices (if they enforce TM30 notifications, which some do not) will state that you are also responsible if the owner does not do it. You should do your own notification of alien staying at the property.
Second, that aside, it is really inconvenient for immigration officials to chase your landlord for TM30 notifications and fines. They will typically find it even harder to find your landlord than you do. On the other hand, you are trapped. If you want service from the immigration officials, you need to do whatever they want. Some offices take advantage of this to pass the onus of getting TM30 notifications filed and collecting fines onto you. Yes, this is unfair. There is nothing you can do about it if you need to deal with such immigration offices.
.
so if one has to do a TM30 - whats the point of submitting a TM28 - as both give details of where i am residing ??

Immigration officers are free to check their database at any time to see if a foreigner's arrival at a hotel, guesthouse or private residence has been duly notified.
The law requires notification within 24 hours of the foreigner's arrival at the hotel, guesthouse or private residence. Therefore, if an immigration office choses to impose a fine for non-submission or delayed submission of this notification, the fine can be issued at the earliest 24 hours after the foreigner's arrival at the hotel, guesthouse or private residence.
But surely the onus is on the hotel / condo owner to fill out the TM30 and send it to the immigration office (or receive a penalty for not doing it)...
How can it be the responsibility of the tenant who has already completed a TM28 and got the receipt in their passport.....
Was chatting to a "bloke down the pub" and he reccons "forget it - not your problem" .....
I'm confused !

They (Jomtien, and some other offices) essentially combined the TM-28 and TM-30 reporting-rules into one "thing" - that being the requirement that a TM-30 form is submitted. It is ultimately "your problem," to ensure it is done. What is needed to satisfy the office is a moving target.
Chances are, your "landlord" may either not know what it is, or be unwilling to help - though it cannot hurt to ask. A copy of your lease is the primary thing needed. If in a condo, the Juristic Person may also issue you a letter stating that you live there. The little shop on your left, when facing the front-door of immigration, will help you fill out the form for a small fee.
They had a copy of the lease and gave me the change of address slip - Telling me to "bring completed TM30 form next time i came to immigration" .
-
I moved rooms yesterday and today went to Jomtien immigration with a completed TM28, copy lease and copies of passport.....
The immigration Officer asked where was form TM30 ?
i was then waved away to the guy at the entrance, who handed over a TM30 form....
Looking through it - its for landlords to report people staying in their property (s).....
Can't see that its anything to do with me - and surely the onus is on him to take it to immigration ?
TIA ..

A follow up for those interested in the Benelli 300 TNT. 3 months later and 2000km, well almost.
Problems with the bike so far: One small screw on the nose cone worked its way loose at 600 km, 30 seconds to fix that. 1st service at 999km was ok but upon returning home some 60kms oil light was flashing on tickover ... phoned the shop and they came and picked it up, without bike for a few days. Changed the sensor, the oil, and another new oil filter. The consensus was dodgy oil filter but they did the other stuff to be safe. They then returned the bike to my house ...very happy with that kind of service and zero charge. 2000kms later and all good.
Things I dont like about the bike: The IRC tyres are dog excrement. 2000 clicks and they are hardly worn, I just reckon the compound is too hard. Have tried upping and lowering the pressures from recommended either way about 4 psi with no real difference. They just do not inspire confidence to go bailing into a corner and yep they do give way. Had a great one Saturday bailing past a car in 3rd gear pulling 10000 rpm, tilt over slightly and wheel spinning ...ok on a GSXR1100 but come on not on a 38bhp 300 (I'd already travelled 70kms nonstop so one would assume they're warmed up eh). Oh the seat is a bit fiddly to get back on, no biggy mind. And one last thing, had to adjust clutch cable 3 times (yes I've oiled it too) so appears to be not the best quality ... I reckon it will need changed sooner than later at this rate, who knows?
Things I like about the bike: Never failed to start first button push, handles well (except for the tyre probs) and straight line rides the bumps perfectly. For a 300 accelerates rather well, gear changes at 7k to 9k are marvellous. The possibility to mess around with the suspension set up ... single fork damper with a wide range and a fully adjustable rear monoshock ...think I'got it just about right now to my personal settings. Brakes are marvellous and more than enough for this size of bike. Finally, I like the look of it, its comfortable to do distance on, and sounds sweet for a standard exhaust.
On the note of 'false neutrals' never had a single one. As Garyzx6r pointed out, it has to be set up correctly for each rider. I had mine adjusted when I picked it up but have also readjusted to suit my big feet and feels even better again.
... as you can see, on the lever you have a cam so can have this up, down, to the front, to the back ...my size 11 feet like it to the front and shifts on the base on my big toe as I like it. Also moved the gear spline part one notch anti-clockwise from factory setting and adjusted the rose bar 2 turns on the thread to make it longer. What it creates is a lower positioned gear lever along with a longer distance from peg to lever. Love that you can do this also as many rearset new bikes don't have these options of adjustability.
So lovin it as they say but those tyres will be gone before worn out. Gary zx6r recommends the Duro Taurus rosso copies at 2700 baht a pair. Yep the pirellis would be the ones but at 10k a pair ! I will give the recommendation a go first.
Sorry if I've bored anyone but it may be of help to know the crack if you want one or thinking about it. Happy biking all love Khru Gin with too much time on his hands today.

Thanks for the replies. As to the clunky gearbox, yep Gary is right. Spoke to the local dealer again and said this has to be adjusted properly at the shop pdi, maybe some dealers have not done so. Going to have a look at one tomorrow in a nearby town as none on display in my dealers.
Was just going through some specs of its two rivals, the Z300 and MT03 as twin cylinder 300's.
TNT300: Price 139k,300cc, 37.7 bhp, max torque 27nm, dry weight 185kg
Z300: Price 172K,296cc, 39.0 bhp, max torque 27nm, dry weight 170kg
MT03: Price 177k,321cc, 41.4 bhp, max torque 30nm, dry weight 175kg
So as folk have pointed out a heavy bike but not as exaggerated as some claim. As perfomance goes pretty similar to a Z300 but behind the MT03 (mainly due to cc of engine). As for price, way behind as you can see. As for an Italian bike built in China versus say a Japanese bike built in Indonesia (MT03) well then I've given up on the idea that its inferior in any way. As a side spec too, all these bikes run on the same size tyres, 110/70 17 inch front and 140/70 17inch rear. If you care to go through all the other specs of these bikes then the Benelli favourably squares up to the pricier bikes.
If I like it tomorrow, ill order one for the school break. Thanks again for all your replies and especially Garyzx6r for being so helpful. Ty KhruGin
Agree the Benelli makes a lot of sense...
I read a test report where the journalist said the TNT300 was the best sounding twin cylinder bike on the planet......

After intensive investigation I bought a green Benelli TNT300 from Pattaya Benelli, more on price and specification than anything else as I had compared it with all the competition, got it for 135000 Baht with 1 years free insurance, free Benelli backpack and 3 years free servicing (labour only) I have now done over 300 miles and it has never missed a beat, it did have a few minor faults but these have been sorted.
I had the wheels powder coated in gold, the belly pan painted green, added carbon look crash mushrooms to frame and rear wheel, also added Benelli and Italy badges to make it stand out.
I get lots of people wanting to talk about the bike and only get good comments on the looks.
They seem to be selling lots of the 300s and quite a few 600s mainly to Thais, I noticed 4 new 600s arrived last week now there is only 1 left, there are promotions and free insurance on both bikes so I guess that is the reason for good sales.
Great looking bike - thanks for sharing.....
