Not sure about the licence plates but it was definitely owned by a Norwegian. They told me he sold it 3 years ago and went back to Norway. Now owned by a Thai who thankfully hasn't changed anything and they still seem to be keen darts players.

The story was that it was started by four who were tired of being unable to physically get into Jools between 5 and 8. They opened Chequers and over time one bought the other three out. Never knew any names, I remember Peter who was manager when I first arrived and who recently appears occasionally.

And the Bus Stop bar in Soi 4 I think was 75 a month or two ago. Would be a good one for Jim Tripper.

Yes thanks for that, I have been in the Tavern, got a newish owner.? I think Det 5 down Soi 8 has a regular American crowd as does the Roadhouse near Silom. Jools when it was on the next corner to the Tavern was my main place in bkk previously. I still go to Chequers but Jools was a bit special.

Well the heading did mention cheap newbie, I thought you quality gents would immediately avert your eyes.

Been there once, nowt wrong with it but not my normal sort of place. For a different, less bland experience try The Old Other Office in Patpong. Don't worry no ladies or ladyboys after your money or body. By the way you have possibly offended newbie by mentioning a low price.

Ah so now it only "could" apply to Indians in Pattaya. I am sure some of them are Thai, but the new (including failed and failing) Indian resto owners in my experience are not Thai. I have not been interviewing them any more than you have. But I have spent much time in Sois 13/1 and 13/2 (Soi Post Office and Soi Yamato to us dinosaurs] and seen the opening and closing of these places.

I don't see the point of your post, I was mentioning cheaper options for those who like drinking in bars and pubs. Reluctance to pay 140 baht or more for a 320ml bottle of standard Thai beer, or 347 baht for a pint of Guinness does not make anyone a cheap Charlie.

But Lou nobody was talking about Indians in Thailand, you specifically mentioned Indian business owners in Pattaya. And I was asking how you KNOW that they are Thai citizens. Strange that over a few years many chose to become business owners in the business graveyard of Pattaya. And instantly suffered the same fate of many before them, empty premises, no customers and no benefit. Have you spent much time in Pattaya and seen the empty Indian restaurants.?

How do you know "he.lives life".? There's no proof of it, he's just enjoying getting people wound up. How much of what he says he gets up to do you believe.? As has been said no-one has to read or respond (I don't anymore) and he does no harm, so up to him and up to you.

Myself I am not keen on the Plastic Paddy or Sports bars that proliferate nowadays, nor the girlie bars where a succession of charming young ladies are keen to know my name and where I'm from. So I am always keen to learn of other places that people might like to pass on. A few to start, if anyone is interested. A couple I've been in recently that I wasn't sure if they were still open New Cowboy Bar. lower down Soi 22. Cracking little bar if a bit lacking in punters, draught Tiger is cheap enough small bottles normal bkk price 120. Soi 26 opposite the Double Tree Hilton (they don't display a name) does a "pint" of draught Chang for 100. Black Swan Soi I9, decent place draught Heineken 130 all day, Tiger and Asahi same till 9 pm. Can't talk about cheap without adding The Old English by Thonglor BTS and their Draught Leo deal. Between 1pm - 3pm 45 a pint Between 3pm - 5pm 65 Between 5pm - 7pm 85 After 7 is a different story Buddy's bars at a few places along Sukhumvit, in Soi 22, nearby Soi 8 and Soi 20, does Guinness at 270 now still a relatively decent deal. And nice little boozers. There are various others doing daytime and happy hour deals, please share what you know.

Like I more or less said, I don't understand why so many keep falling for it. The occasional one might be a laugh but continually is a bit much. Possibly he's starting to run out of topics.

Don't know why so many continue to go on his threads. He is obviously just a pysse-taker, nothing is genuine he is very calculating and ready with some sort of twisted answer for everything.

Not being snarky Lou but how can you be sure of that, have you been round and interviewed them all.? I am including all the Indian restaurant owners in that. It does seem odd that so many Thai Indians would open up businesses in Pattaya in recent years.

Chumphon only used to be for one day, probably still is. Phone a hotel there or tourist info.

Well thank you all for your responses,all I was actually looking for was to hear experiences of teaching English to classes of under sixteen years old. As I said, it was just curiosity which I will now have to learn to live with. Thanks again.
