Thailand’s dependence on tourism means losing passport wars
biggles45 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
'because they believe they will never return here.' And I would imagine that they would have the data on overstays by Thais to support theire stand. -
'have an impact on the number of applications for a 60-day Tourist Visa at Thai Embassies abroad. ' Yes In our case the Thai embassy in Manila is a 3 hour trip away. They take 2 working days to issue one so you need to stay one night in an over priced hotel, all for an extra 15 days. They also want lots of supporting paperwork. We had 2 a year for 7 years Pre Covid but no more as long as this continues

Thailand set to start collecting 300 THB tourist fee from June
biggles45 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
So what does it actually cover? If I, a tourist am hit by a car/motorbike and I have no insurance, is my bill paid from this fund? If I have a heart attack or other medical condition, no insurance and can't pay does it pay my bill? That was the complaint that started this, tho 7+billion baht tax to cover 500million baht in unpaid medical bills is a bit of a stretch. -
You are a Passenger so if your Thai driver is unlicensed or drunk that could be a problem. Check that out.

Travel insurance warning after Welshman's motorbike crash
biggles45 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
His policy is designed for frequent travellers who only have short stays. It is valid for a year so it saves them taking out insurance for each trip. It was certainly not right for him but reading the policy coverage should have made him realise this. Nothing at all to do with 'fine print' Hope he makes a good recovery. -

Cebu Pacific is a domestic and international low cost airline. Yet they are not listed as reducing their fares? -
They don't want peace..... says the country that invaded them, launches missiles at civilians etc. Maybe if you stopped all this and just left them alone peace might happen by itself?

If you are really concerned.... Don't Vape! From what I have read it's not addictive, like nicotine, so just don't do it and concentrate your energies on the girls instead

British woman breaks nearly every bone in face in Thailand
biggles45 replied to webfact's topic in Koh Samui News
'I don't think travel insurance covers us for medical bills incurred from motorcycle accidents, even if we do have a licence.' Not correct, it varies depending on the policies 'Exclusions'. I have been visiting Thailand for 15+ years, riding bikes all the time and have checked many policies before choosing mine:- - Some do not allow any bike riding, licence or not. - Some require a home licence for mbike and often with an IDP. - Some restrict engine size, usually under 125cc - Some will not cover if a passenger and the driver is unlicensed, or drunk. This can be a problem in Thailand when using MB Taxis. I suspect that this last exclusion may be the one they are using to avoid payment. -

What a great idea, encourage mass tourism from China just as Cv19 outbreak is exploding there. No entry restrictions, just bring your money, what could possibly go wrong?- 29 replies

They are registered (recorded) so that the can be identified if picked up again. They don't need a reason, they are a law into themselves. Some years ago a good friend who had worked in Central for a long while, bought some food in Soi9 on her break. She walked over to sit on a bench on the beachfront (before the council removed them) and the cops came along en masse with their pick up rounding up girls. She was in their sights and it took a lot of pleading not to be taken away.

'but are unhappy with the digitization and local bureaucracy' I went into K bank yesterday, a simple transaction, I wanted my recorded contact phone number changed due to a new sim. I had all my ID, sat down and spent 20 minutes while the service officer entered stuff on her computer. Finally she printed out 4 sheets of paper, filled in a form and I signed them. Let's not even mention Immigration Visa extensions????????

Flown internationally and domestically without problems several times. Very good promos, especially inside Vietnam. Comparable with other SEA airlines to me.

A friend of mine had a similar tale. OZ born, educated and ex Govt senior Manager. Was living in Thailand for 25 years working as an IELTS teacher and examiner but had to return OZ to do the 2 years He had no family, or friends here, no social contacts at all really. Ended up in a room in a boarding house. He was fortunate that his teaching experience got him a contract at a Uni and some private students.
