    Dan

    Hi Dan mate,

Nice pups, if they are anything like there mother and father, they will be superb, look forward to seeing them, i would of had one off you but as you know got a soi dog and a sharpai.

  2. Thaicoon, any pics of this kitchen and what it should look like ? I have a nice kitchen here for 215k, so would be interesting to see the difference in your 'high spec' and similar priced one I got. Mine not include top either as yet as deciding on what to use.

Here is the pics of the units, and what they will look like.

found them on the companys site.

  3. I do not hink you will get anywhere near the prices your thinking for phuket, firstly all the building companies are spoilt with over paying gullible foreigners and secondly they know what these properties they build are selling for, so they trying to get there cut.

Some prices mentioend might be achievable for very standard and basic finishings, excluding the mentioned items such as pool, built ins, kitchen, landscape etc etc etc. But it will still be a very very basic job, requiring extra attention all the way.

sorry no pics as yet, but the room size is 32 foot by 15 foot, having the units straight on both walls with built in double oven on the tower and larder units, also a breakfast bar either side, will look good, the reason i bought in the UK, was the list price of this kitchen was over a million baht, with discounts in the Jan sales got it for 5000 GBP, and included free, was 2 hotpoint frige draws and a range worth 1400 pounds. i could not of bought this cheaper in thailand.

as i say before, i would not have bothered, but the wife has a 40 foot container coming over, so i have been advised to fill it with as much stuff as poss.

  4. Hi

I was out asking for black granite counter, for my kitchen, one 2,3 meters and one 2 meters, with holes for sink and stove, 146.000 fitted. i did not buy it... i live in phuket

Hec more expensive than the uk, Phuket, says it all, i had a condo down there, now sold, when we were doing it up they quoted me crazy prices, as the old saying go's LOCATION, LOCATION,

So got the wifes family to go down with a truckload of stuff, worked out more than half the price, they also did all work as they are builders, drove down from Buriram

In Korat you can pick granite up for about 700 baht a metre, and the guy will also cut it out for an extra charge of about 2500 baht

I have enquired about this last week, as sending a high spec kitchen over from the UK, excluding worktops, as i can buy a high spec kitchen over here a lot cheaper than in thailand, and the wife has a box going over duty free.

  5. This is our house, finished it in Jan 2005 Banglamung

    :o

    Peerpan,

Very nice, i love the spanish style arches, nice touch, this is what we are building at the back of my house, a covered walkway 2 story going into the garage, with open arches on ground floor and window style on second floor then i am going to postmark rayban, for some details on his pool, as he has had a nice pool built.

as i say nice house, congratulations.

  6. Here is our house....

    A fixer upper... rebuilt 2005.

1600 sq. feet. 100 ft long-Two story-all Thai hardwood with some carved wood brought in from Bali. sits on 3 meter posts above the sea in southern Thailand fishing village. street side office/gallery is made of cottman (sp.?) cement- no need for air-con as it's over the sea. We put in an outta the box Ikea kitchen and lighting (from malaysia). Cozy bedroom upstairs is bungalow style with bamboo walls and 100's of islands to view. Our boat is parked next to the house. :D

    Over all very, very happy-

    :o hellohello ka

Nice, what a great spot to build, really nice, and great for fishing, you say you have put an Ikea kitchen in, i have just bought for my House a full western kitchen in the UK, we are shipping it out, retail price of this kitchen was over 1 million baht, got in the Jan sales for 200,000, so worth shipping, this does not include work tops as granite and marbel is a lot cheaper in Thailand, in uk granite is 300 GBP a metre. i will be fitting this myself.

  7. Good post, i like looking at other peoples houses, sometimes it gives you good ideas etc, this is my place i built in 2000, not got any recent photos at the moment, but we are just starting to build a spanish style arched passage leading to a 4 car garage and snooker room, with office and bedroom etc above, a bit of a den, to keep my bikes in etc.

having problems adding attachment, try again tomorrow

  8. I hope to bring a 40 foot container over this year, wifes name so duty free, thai returning home, i have been advised to fill it up, so going to bring all tools, sit down tractor lawnmower, jacks, hydralic motorcycle lift, also a good supply of tinned ferang food, and a few cases of bitter............. :o

  9. I was interested in buying this, wrong place for me, i am after something by the night market.
    Hi mate:

The units by the night mkt are ranging from 10000 bht per month rental prime spot if you can find the right business venture, I was looking at this area:

I know, i was interested before they built them and enquired, trouble is they are all government owned and leasehold, i want to buy something freehold, got another property in mind not to far. they were asking a 7 to 800,000 lease plus rent.

  10. Surin is one of the fastest growing towns in Thailand. Many industries are moving into the area. For additional info, immigration, hotels, historical sites, click onto the web-site at the top of the page.

  13. Hi! What a great forum this is, especially this Isaan diary!!

I live in Sweden, but have a wife from Ban Muang Pai, near Krasang. Nice to know that there are farangs living in that area!

Maybe you can give me some advice:Me and my wife are planning to buy an apartment or house in Krasang. Do you know if there is any place on the internet to look for this, or is this something her parents has to check out by asking around?

What prices can we expect to pay? Thanks for all your advices! :o

My best mate, lives in Krasang, i will ask him, now is the time to buy, i have a place in Buriram, every other day we have people coming to the house with land or property for sale, owe the Thai/Chinese money, i have just aquired another 6 rai for a mate of mine.

  14. Went to riggers wedding in non bua lamphu, last May, and the rocket festival was on the same weekend, h e l l these rockets ere big, well worth going to see, it may be on the same date this year. i will postmark hime and ask.

  15. consider myself lucky - my wedding ceremony for the closest family and friends (40 pax) at my mother in law house was some 15k baht + 9k wedding rings, no special outfits, no pictures, a symbolic 1 or 2k dowry.

that way we were able to build a house for us for the future retirement.

my wife is a peasant with aristocratic maners, perfect english (no farang partner before) and she is not a young chick. I know she loves me not for the money

Me the same, cost me about 60,000 max, that was a party as well, 10 years ago, my wife has never asked me for anything, i have bought land for her and built a large house, but that was my decision, not the wifes, touch wood, she has never ripped me off, i do help her family out now and again, but for little money, when i want to pay bills in thailand, i am in UK, electric on house etc, my sister in law rings us up, tells us how much, and she draws the money from my UK bank account using my UK ATM card, which i let her keep, she also keeps all receipts for us, i also have been very lucky in having a genuine Thai essarn farming family, and i think the world of them.

I also know a couple of Thai ladys in the village, that have taken there ferrang husbands to the cleaners, once they return to the UK, there thai boyfreind is back, drinking the ferrangs money away.

  16. I am marrying a 28 y.o. TG from Issan in a couple of months. She speaks perfect English, has a university degree but comes from an Issan farming family. We have also applied for a fiancée visa and will have a small ceremony followed by a bigger reception in the United States. The traditional Thai wedding in Issan is for her family and friends, and will not be registered for months (so as not to screw up our visa application). Suffice it to say I am concerned that the cost of the two ceremonies and travel expenses are already going to be very expensive without the little extras I am told are required in a Thai traditional marriage. I am wondering if the costs that my fiancée proposes for the Thai wedding are reasonable. While my in-laws do not want a dowry (they are apparently happy that their daughter and I are in love), my fiancée indicates that a present from me to them s appropriate. She proposes that I give her parents a gift of 8-10 cows or buffalo for the farm (approximately B150k or US 4,500). Additionally she proposes that I give her 10 baht of gold (approximately B120K or US 3,400); pay for wedding outfits and photos (B50k or US 1500); and pay for the ceremony and reception at a hotel for 150 - 200 guests (approximately B75K or US 2,100). Grand total is approximately B495K or US 12,400 for the Thai wedding alone. Additionally, she wants me to put up B200K for show money which will be returned after the ceremony and reception.

I think that 2 to 4 Buffalos or cows are generous and reasonable, as is 3 to 6 baht of gold. I do not know whether the costs for the photos or ceremony are unreasonable although I suspect they are ok (although the photos and outfits are already a done deal since I already told her that it was ok). Overall, I think that what she proposes might be too much? Any thoughts, comments or advice would be appreciated.

BTW the US ceremony and reception will be approximately US 5,000 to 7, 000 (not including the travel expenses).

h e l l , i would be worrying about this, as said esarn wedding not expensive, has she asked you to build her a house yet ?, how long have you known your Thai GF, all i can say is be carefull.

  17. The typical benefit of a Blackberry is that it is very fast for its core functions when compared to its Windows Mobile counterparts. Battery life is pretty good, and you can do the same primary functions as the WM devices, and the older ones were bulletproof. (Newer ones take abuse, but not as solid.)

Web browsing is also generally faster on the blackberry when you have constrained bandwidth, since you have a server in the middle trimming down the pages and down-sampling images. My bb has two different RIM browsers-- a fast one that is compatible with 80% of the sites and a slow one that works for 98%.

The other main benefit I find is that it works better one-handed, and there is no stylus to lose. It's nice when you are reading documents.

The blackberry kills me when it comes to attachments-- there is no way to transfer to or from the laptop. Pricing plans make tethering unattractive when roaming.

There still is no great all in one solution. I am hoping/dreaming that Apple is coming out with one in the second week of January, but not holding my breath.

As to the original question, the bb's seem to have flopped in Thailand, and not many retail outlets carry them (even in BKK). Best bet is finding a place that will order one for you. It does need to be on a post-paid plan.

I have just sent one out to a mate in Bangkok, a blackberry 7230, he loves it, now he has 3 people who want one, they are hard to get in Thailand, so sending 3 out to him, maybe next week, he has gone onto a contract with his, i do not think they work on pay as you go, mine does not work in the UK, got to be on contract, he has put his on contract with Asia GPRS, 1950 baht per month, and works whatever country he travels to, he says they have a good offer on at the moment.

  18. I have owened 2 Rollers, one a Silver shadow S1 and a Silver shadow S2, the shadow one was the worst car i have ever owned, it was like driving a boat, no handling at all, it was a 71 model, all british made, as rolls royce say, bulls h i t, h e l l they have citron air suspension, the S2 was a lot better, same body etc, but i also put a handling kit on it, a brace etc, improved it a lot, that was a lot better car even today, looks really nice and still looks the part.

I used to earn a couple of monkeys on a sat, doing weddings,

Now you can pick a silver shadow up in the UK for the price of a ford fiesta. also they do about 12 to 14 to the gallon.

  19. I think you are right, I think 044 covers Korat too. However, the horading for the new International School is in Surin!

Funnily enough, about 6 months ago we heard from my wife's driving instructor that they were building a new International School in Buriram. The instructor came from Buriram. Maybe a wayward rumour but pretty close.

That is even beter for me, if it is right, right on my doorstep, my oldest girl, (Thai), go's to boarding school in UK, costs me quite a bit, so when i move to Thailand full time, i will leave oldest girl in UK, as she is now 16 and wants to go onto Uni, i will put the youngest girl in an international school in Thailand.

  20. Hello all ,Do any members know of any new housing developments being built in or around Buriram ? Me and Jai are going over in the summer to hopefully buy some property, and it would be great to get some background, ie size, price and location . I have tried Google but all the sites seem to be Southern Thailand . Thanks in advance and a Happy New year. Simon.

How much do you want to spend, as i know of a couple of properties on the market, very high quality, i will postmark you.
