  1. Spot on but shortsighted by "some people". Absolutely NO - not everybody likes to use fb and LINE. I use neither and would hate it if I needed to (my Stepdaughter loves it and she is proficient and happy to use it, besides Tik-Tok etc. etc. etc. - the usual suspects). Restaurants without a proper homepage will have difficulties to attract me and my family as a customer - although there are exeptions.
  2. Thanks. I know Kinokuniya, but have never seen one here. CD shops seem to have completely disappeared. There used to be a quite good one in Emporium (BKK) ages ago and I would love to see a Bluray shop. Most of the trade seems to have been moved to online shops. I realize that saying this only now shows that the future trends have somehow left me behind. Same for books as well. In Switzerland they still have some really impressive Bookshops (like Orell-Füssli in Zurich) which do sell online as well. Anyway what I read (exept for cookbooks perhaps) is anyway not on display for the occasional shopper since I do not read novels or bestsellers etc. Have a good read, watch, listening !
  3. Money Respect I show and manners Education and job Honesty I do not assign priorities because not every woman is the same. I assume I have met some in my life (in Thailand that is) for which money was NOT first priority. I reckon it is always a mix of many variables.
  4. Too kind of you you are even thinking of sharing what you find valuable. I have such an amount of readings on all kind of media that I could not finish reading (including understanding that is, its mostly Mahayana Buddhist Teachings) in the rest of time I will have on this planet. So I would have as well tons of the most interesting topics to share. But all I can sensibly do is think of you and wish you well.
  5. Ever noticed how extremely rare (if not even non-existent) a well equipped bookstore is or a shop where you can buy classical music ? To be fair, not that I would propose that you could find a very well equipped Morlam CD shop overseas.
  6. And there is the other side which gets forgotten all the time: There are plenty of expats who can easily pay any treatment out of their own pocket and be it many millions. Everybody should be able to pay for their treatments - this is never denied. But for this a mandatory insurance which even the rich (the so sought after "quality" expats - or am I wrong in this regard ?) cannot get because of preconditions is not a clever idea and might destruct whole families because of nothing. If you want to conclude an insurance - why not ? But do not make it mandatory. And for the small rest where this does not work a 500 Baht entry fee from every tourist will MORE than compensate for that. Or a fixed deposit of say 3 Million THB instead of an insurance.
  7. Spot on. From what I read still (after thousands of posts) many if not the majority here still do not understand this important point. It is not about cost and as well not the question if insurance is good or not. Eligibility is the point - as you say. This means age, and as well predispositions. And yes it is ridiculous to demand something that you cannot fulfill per se.
  8. Oh yes, there is. I like Leffe (brune) and Chimay, too. But did you ever really taste Weihenstefaner Vitus ? If not it might be a revelation.
  9. May they be as well contacted for an offer NOT using Facebook ? I am getting nuts if everybody seems to assume that this is the only standard and only way of communicating nowadays (or LINE). I have neither and I'd rather use a telex emulation then anything incl. Twitter, Facebook, Line etc. My preferred option is email actually.
  10. Was that the beer garden where they served suckling pig on Fridays ? Just across the end of Soi Cowboy ? This one was fun - I really miss that. Has been ages ago. Another time now.
  11. From beers readily available here I prefer in the order below: 1. Kirin or 2. Asahi depending on the current mood (taste is quite different from Kirin) 3. For special occasions: Weihenstephaner Vitus (high alcohol content and expensive, but probably the best beer you can find) 4. Singha Prerequisite for all: Ice-cold. I put them in the freezing compartment until just before they would freeze. Important: Glass. I found out that a very thin glass contributes to the taste. Try the difference.
  12. How about those people who stay here, are vaccinated, Covid-free but would like to travel abroad ? They might have preconditions that would deny insurance companies insure them for this Covid 100K Insurance, thus they are unable to return ? Preconditions have been made a criteria for prioritizing vaccinations.
  13. Before any surgery they tell you to stop it at least 14 days before.
  14. But they make an acceptable (although a bit sweet) apple juice over there. How does this relate to the topic of a list of preferred countries for quarantine free entry ? It does not - but it seems the proposed country selection does not either. Why not Switzerland on the list ? And why UK with the high number of new cases allowed ? Has anybody by the way answered the question what counts - departure point on the return or passport ? If I go as a German passport holder to Cambodia for a 2 week holiday and want to return to my home adress in Thailand again what applies ? Germany or Cambodia ?
  15. It was a question once for my wife. Then the doctor tested for any Dengue she had unknowingly gone through in the past (obviously possible, maybe as a child). She tested positive. In this case it was not recommended to give Asprin. Maybe you want to bring this issue up with your doctor as well before to finally decide. Just a hint.
  16. Missing for quite some time: SELTERS Apfelschorle (Apple Juice diluted with Selters Mineral Water) - Big bottles in Central Schwartau Jam Sour Cherry - Villa Waitrose Essential Brie - Central - they have all kinds of Brie but all more expensive and not so tasty Missing and substituted by far inferior brands: Waitrose Essential Parmesan (piece) aged 18 month - Central. The real thing. Now they have tons of more expensive but not genuine ones. The other genuine stuff they have is by far more expensive Never encountered: Good and reasonable pure Apple Juice (100%) which is not above 300 THB per bottle (actually never tried one for that price). All Thai brands are too sweet / sweetened. The best I know is from Switzerland, but they rather import hundreds of different mineral waters instead of only one good brand of that. Brands from New Zealand etc. do not even come close. HAINICH Cornichons - Central - the best Never encountered: A real good and mild Emmentaler cheese (piece) - no copies please, an Emmentaler is from the Emmental and from nowhere else Never encountered: Almond Paste (Marzipan), preferably Niederegger
  17. Wifey grabbed 3 glasses of it. Very helpful. Thank you again.
  18. Thanks for the information. Will have to check it out. Unfortunately the Tripadvisor entries for Fu_Man_ Lu are a bit outdated. Not sure if this one is still open at all. But indeed there is an Indonesian Restaurant (The Diff) ! Surprize. Will have to check. Trindys is only on Facebook. Their problem. Safest bet is Indian by Nature I guess. Have passed there many times by car and have actually forgotten to try it out once.
  19. Lao Kitchen, Terminal 21, 3rd. floor - Nem Nuong is very reasonable and good (although this goes under "Vietnamese")
  20. Indonesian ! Surprizingly. Or does anybody know an Indonesian restaurant where you could have a full scale Rijsttafel ? Recommendations are more than welcome. Or even much more surprizingly: Decent Indian - although they outnumber any other cuisine - but I am not talking about the quantity but quality, setting etc. And a Chinese Restaurant offering the full course sophisticated Peking Duck with skin & pancakes, soup and meat seperately.
  21. 1. A German Restaurant that offers Potato Dumplings as a side dish. Even old institutions in Bangkok do not, let alone Pattaya. Have always to make it myself at home- which is so easy that I wonder why they dont do it. 2. A Japanese Restaurant that offers a real decent Japanese Sukiyaki (there is a superb one for sushi but they do not serve Sukiyaki, a Japanese Sukiyaki, NOT a Thai "Sukiyaki") 3. An Italian Restaurant that offers a real wood fired oven Napolitan Pizza with decent size (which is more than 30 cm), decent and enough toppings (example: for a four season there need to be artichokes present and not just tiny fragments of it, must be accompanied by peperoncini in olive oil, at least a black pepper mill and a restaurant that offers Tomato Ketchup to go with it will never see me again). Regardless of price (I know the real ingredients are expensive here). .....and if I may be so impertinent to add one more: A restaurant offering a real Wiener Schnitzel (made with Veal, like here in Vienna: *https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1arGcHTQHaA. Sorry Video in German but the pictures will do I think (its worth watching).
  22. As far as I understand @Mike Teavee he is saying the savings must be abroad before they can be transferred to Thailand. Which could raise questions about tax in the country where you have this savings account then. When I had an account in Switzerland some time ago, I had to sign some forms answering all sort of questions for the foreign banks have become quite sensitive about regulations - at least in the EU and CH. I dont know about the USA or UK. I remember reading once that tax procedures there are a bit different than in the rest of the world anyway. But I acknowledge that the initial interpretation of @KannikaPmight be at least a basis of discussion if such would be required. I guess because of those differences and possibilities around pension payments tax on personal pension income is not necessarily levied at all at least if you are not a Gates or Rockefeller (because of its complexity). There may be a difference what is written somewhere and how it is actually handled - as so often in Thailand: often it is common sense which dictates the actual procedures which makes sense in many cases.
  23. Yes, but this was PRIOR to ordering, maybe based on a conversation I had with them via email. In the SMS it then referred to a Line adress for ordering. Since I do not have Line I went to the homepage of BPH and ordered from there, which was perfectly possible, indicating our names, but strangly no Hospital Number and no Reservation Code as mentioned in the SMS. The confirmation I got back (from the payment processor) did exactly state what was ordered and for whom. But I did not have the possibility to enter said reservation code. Since the confirmation from 2C2P reflected exactly what we did input via the BPH homepage and the payment was completed successfully I was under the impression that this is somehow connected - how else would it have been possible to order via the homepage if not. But there are inconsistencies in the whole process. We will visit the hospital this week to clarify that. My wife gets her second (AstraZeneca) shot this week so we are there anyway and probably just in the right place instead of talking to a receptionist.
  24. The date of the booster shot MUST be dependent on the second dose you have received previously. This must be evident to the Bangkok Hospital since this is a medical necessity. To pass on the responsibility for their storage to the customer is therefore neither sensible nor acceptable. When you paid you are entitled to get the shots at the time required and not when their logistics does allow that. Rather they have to change their procedures I would suggest. It is their responsibility to provide the service - especially when you could not even indicate the date of the vaccination at the time of the order. Concerning payment: When I ordered a so-called "full course" for my wife and a booster shot for me back in August I was redirected to "SCB BDMS PATTAYA E-COMMERCE (via 2C2P, a wellknown payment processor) where I could pay with a Visa Credit Card . The transaction was completed successfully and correctly and I received a confirmation (of the payment - not with a vaccination date of course) via email from the payment processor. I do not have a Line application and will never have one. I would love to see a reversed trend that everybody does not necessarily presumes that all citizens use Line, Facebook or Twitter. A contingent was not mentioned at the time when we ordered the Moderna and neither this passage that you posted above (Q&A).
