Australian Arrested at Bangkok Airport Over Pattaya Murder

Police have arrested a 46-year-old Australian man at Suvarnabhumi Airport after he attempted to flee Thailand, in connection with the disappearance and murder of a 17-year-old Thai girl whose body was found on 27 June 2026, inside a suitcase abandoned beside railway tracks in Pattaya.

The suspect, identified publicly by Thai police as Mr. Simon Peter Carman, was detained while attempting to buy a ticket to return to Australia. He has denied any involvement in the killing and maintains he is innocent despite what police describe as strong CCTV evidence. He currently faces a charge of abducting a minor under the age of 18 for indecent purposes.

The arrest followed a joint investigation by Pattaya City Police and Nong Prue Police, who traced the suspect’s movements using CCTV footage collected along his suspected escape route.

According to investigators, the victim, Miss T, 17, from Kalasin province, disappeared after entering a condominium on Jomtien Second Road with Carman at 3.34am on June 25. CCTV footage showed the pair holding hands as they entered the building and went to Room 20 on the 15th floor. Police say the teenager was never seen leaving the condominium alive.

Further CCTV footage recorded at around 9.34pm the same day allegedly showed Carman dragging a large black suitcase from the building. He loaded it onto a Yamaha Aerox motorcycle bearing Prachuap Khiri Khan registration. Police later used CCTV tracking him riding along Sukhumvit Road towards Soi Chaiyapruk 2 and then onto a road running parallel to the railway tracks.

Investigators said the suspect disappeared from CCTV coverage for more than nine minutes before returning to the condominium on the same motorcycle without the suitcase. Police believe the victim’s body was disposed of during that period.

A body concealed inside a black suitcase was later discovered beside railway tracks behind Pattaya Floating Market in Bang Lamung district, Chon Buri. Police from Pattaya and Nong Prue coordinated efforts under senior officers, analysing CCTV footage and other evidence to identify and locate the suspect.

Officers tracked Carman to Suvarnabhumi Airport, where he was arrested before boarding a flight. Authorities are continuing to question him while forensic specialists gather additional evidence to support the case. The investigation remains ongoing as officers continue to examine forensic evidence and complete the case file for legal proceedings.

Yes. I've been dealing with responses of late elsewhere on this website regarding (possible) police corruption as with this:

I'm sure the family is equally interested in finding out what the motive behind the murder was, and as offensive as you may find it, speculation is part of the process of getting to the truth.

I speculate he'll do some serious prison time if this comes out as per the CCTV footage shows, and he's guilty.

It looks very incriminating.

As I said, if it wasn't working out, pay her, let her go and find another.

What possible excuse is there for such a heinous crime?

Some aussies can be really homophobic and might freak out when he realises he just got hot and heavy with one. A normal person wouldn't react like that

Gay marriage was passed by the Australian government after a national poll of Aussies agreed in a majority vote to allow gay marriage. Homophobes are in all countries not just "some Aussies can be homophobes" speculation that this was a lady boy is just that until proven. Whether he killed a girl or lady boy and found guilty the scum bag should lose his right to life.

The family can sue the condo ownership and management for wrongful death under a legal concept known as "negligent security"

If the security personnel explicitly bypassed guest verification protocols, ignored strict visitor policies, or let a non-resident in without the resident's authorization, it represents a direct breach of their duty.

If it turns out this was an illegal under 30-day Airbnb rental there could be even more potential civil damages let alone possible criminal charges to others than the perp.

When this story first broke, I read that the man claims they had agreed to a price of 1000 baht, but once they got to the condo the girl had claimed she was menstruating. The man then tried to make the price 500 baht and according to him the girl became enraged and pulled a knife on him. He claimed he only acted in self-defence. Weird thing is, I can't find this story again. I don't know which site it came from, but I am 99% sure that is what I read.

Throw in a bit of meth and this can happen.

But he still has no grounds for his actions. A woman that thin with a knife is not a huge danger. Run away if you have to or get in another room and hold the door.

Meth and a disagreement of some sort. But again , this is very rare. This guy was insane and susceptible to murder all along

He may well deny any involvement in the killing, and he can maintain he is innocent, but the police have strong CCTV evidence. And while he can protest his innocence all he likes, the trail of footage leaves him very little room to manoeuvre.

Give me the ocular proof… Make me to see’t; or at the least so prove it… That the probation bear no hinge nor loop… To hang a doubt on”. Othello (Act 3, Scene 3)

The autopsy, showing cause of death, and possibly other forensic material found in the room, will determine what he is charged with.

It's possible she died of a self induced drug overdose, or even a medical episode like a heart attack, he panicked, and disposed of the body. Tampering with a crime scene / disposing of a body is still a crime, but the CCTV footage alone is not evidence of murder.

Denying everything tends to show he has killed her, and whilst the CCTV footage is extremely strong circumstantial evidence, it do not prove murder alone.

Australian Held Over Teen’s Death at Suvarnabhumi

image.png

An Australian man has been arrested at Suvarnabhumi Airport while allegedly attempting to leave Thailand after police linked him to the death of a 17-year-old Thai girl whose body was later found concealed inside a suitcase beside railway tracks in Pattaya, Chon Buri.

Police from Pattaya City Police Station coordinated with immigration officers at Suvarnabhumi Airport to detain 46-year-old Australian national Mr Simon Peter Carman at around 7pm on 26 June. Officers said he was preparing to buy a ticket to return to Australia when he was stopped. The suspect denied any involvement in the teenager’s disappearance despite CCTV footage and other evidence gathered during the investigation.

The investigation began after 17-year-old Thanchanok, from Kalasin province, was reported missing by a friend after she could not be contacted for more than 24 hours. Police traced CCTV footage showing the teenager entering a condominium on Jomtien Second Road, with Mr Carman at 3.34am on 25 June. The pair were seen entering room 20 on the 15th floor, but only the Australian was later seen leaving.

Investigators said CCTV captured Mr Carman dragging a large black suitcase from the condominium at 9.34pm on 25 June before loading it onto a Yamaha Aerox motorcycle. He then rode towards Sukhumvit Road, turned into Chaiyaphruek 2 Road and travelled along the railway road, disappearing from cameras for more than nine minutes. He later returned to the condominium without the suitcase, prompting police to suspect it contained the missing teenager’s body.

After searching the route, police discovered, in the early hours of 27 June 2026, a 26-inch black suitcase abandoned beside railway tracks about 4.2 kilometres from the condominium. Inside was the body of a young woman, folded up inside the case and covered with a brown cloth. She was naked and had extensive facial injuries, with blood visible around her mouth and nose. Police said the victim had been dead for about two days. Her physical appearance and tattoos matched those of Thanchanok, although formal identification and a post-mortem examination at the Police General Hospital’s Institute of Forensic Medicine are still required.

Police also examined the condominium room, where they reported signs of a struggle. Mr Carman was found with scratches on his neck and arms, which officers believe are consistent with defensive wounds. During questioning, he reportedly claimed the teenager had left the room while he was asleep and insisted he knew nothing about her disappearance.

Daily News reported that the Pattaya Provincial Court issued an arrest warrant, before the body was found, charging Mr Carman with abducting a minor under the age of 18 from the custody of her parents or guardian for indecent purposes. Police said they do not accept his explanation and are continuing their investigation while considering further legal action as forensic results become available.

Battered and bruised with "blood streaming from her mouth and nose" does not denote "a self induced drug overdose, or even a medical episode like a heart attack".

That wouldn't happen at the Nana hotel in Bangkok because near the lift doors a security guard has a set up and takes the I.D. card of all visiting females that are with a guest and when she returns the guard rings the room and asks if everything o.k. If ir is she gets her I.D. back and goes on her way.

Some very clear CCTV images doing the rounds on Facebook, absolutely no doubt it is him riding the motorbike with the suitcase strapped on the rear.

Hats off to the police for quick action.

Yes it is great to see crack fast RTP police work when elsewhere on this website the Police esp. Immigration are said to be more complicit in crime and corruption than solving it.

The family's desire to find out what motivated the murder, isn't, of course, a question of determining whether the murder was justified or not. It's driven by the basic human desire to know what happen and why it happened. It's the same need for closure that drives a family's need to be told where remains can be recovered or to hear a confession, even when there is already other overwhelming evidence that they are guilty.

Because the OP doesn't mention any of that, and they haven't announced a cause of death yet.

My theory is that this was an 'I am under 18' extortion attempt that turned violent. I have heard of cases where the woman becomes hysterical, destroys the room, and demands a large sum of money. Regardless, that gives him absolutely no excuse for killing her

You are correct that it isn't in the original article, but @scubascuba3 responded to your post with that info a couple of hours ago and those details were replicated by @NanLaew again shortly afterwards.

It seems that people don't bother to read what comes beforehand before posting.

I prefer to do so, rather than to risk looking a fool for not doing so. Sometime updates are posted by members before the official updates by Admin, as they may have to do translations etc before publishing.

I certainly read that around the same time as scuba...
