Thirteen children were injured after a car crashed into a child development centre in Muang district of Kanchanaburi on Friday 7 August 2026, while they were taking their midday nap.
The crash happened at about 12.30pm at Ban Nong Song Child Development Centre in tambon Kaeng Sian, police said. A car carrying two people veered into the building where the children had been sleeping.
Preliminary information indicated that the 54-year-old driver has a heart condition and may have lost consciousness before the vehicle left the road and struck the centre.
Children taken to hospital
A teacher told police that 34 children were at the centre when the car entered the building. Thirteen were injured, with most suffering head injuries, while the other 21 children were unharmed.
Emergency responders and rescue workers attended the scene and took the injured children to hospital. The Rattanavudh Foundation said none of the injured children was in a serious condition.
Photographs from the scene showed blankets scattered across a room used by the children for their afternoon rest.
Parents request alcohol test
Parents have asked police to carry out an alcohol and drugs test on the driver, saying they want every aspect of the case clarified.
The case remains under investigation, with the driver's reported health condition forming part of the preliminary police account of why the car crashed into the centre.
