It would seem that DNA checks would go a long way to proving who is an actual father or not.

The probe is part of a wider investigation into a network headed by Chen Yin Lai, a Chinese national arrested in April 2024 on suspicion of laundering more than 70 billion baht through Thailand.

Police are awaiting DNA test results before deciding whether to seek further arrest warrants, including for Chen Yin Lai’s Chinese wife and a Thai man accused of falsely acknowledging paternity of her three children.

Among those arrested were Sunee Satitmanotham, a birth registration officer at Samitivej Thonburi Hospital, and Siriporn Nidthim, a registrar at the Thon Buri district office. Both declined to comment while being fingerprinted on Friday.

Also interesting: there's a pattern of Chinese women gaining Thai citizenship through marriage to a Thai man, then divorcing him and using their newly acquired Thai status as proxies to let wealthy Chinese investors own land (since foreigners generally can't own land in Thailand). Makes me wonder — if one of these women, now technically a Thai citizen, gives birth to a child with a Chinese father, would that child automatically be granted Thai citizenship too?

Seems that even if they revoke the Thai citizenship of any female born in this scheme they would still have Chinese citizenship.

Similar to birth tourism.
They certainly are keeping authorities busy.

In this case, the long term planning involved finding sufficient Thai birth registration employees at major hospitals and paying them enough to fudge the records.

But as noted above, one reason the scheme was busted NOW is that they now have the computer horsepower to link the records.
