Pattaya Guards Fight Tourist on Walking Street

Three men believed to be security guards at a Pattaya entertainment venue were filmed fighting a foreign tourist on Walking Street in Chon Buri during the early hours of 27 May. The clip, which spread widely on social media, showed the three Thai men confronting the tourist in what appeared to be a three-against-one altercation before both sides eventually dispersed.

The footage was shared by the Facebook page “Pattaya Wan Wan Phan Kwa Rueang”, which stated that the incident took place near the centre of Walking Street in South Pattaya, Chon Buri province. Two of the three Thai men were wearing black vests resembling the uniforms of venue security guards.

The 46-second clip showed both the Thai group and the foreign tourist appearing experienced in fighting, adopting Muay Thai stances before exchanging punches in the street. During the fight, the three Thai men repeatedly attempted to corner and strike the tourist, while the foreign man fought back and at one stage knocked one of the Thai men to the ground.

The confrontation continued after the Thai group regained control, with one man landing a heavy punch to the tourist’s face, causing him to fall to his knees. The tourist was then surrounded again before another foreign man wearing a white shirt stepped in to separate the fighters. The video ended shortly afterwards.

The post accompanying the footage included the caption: “When a foreigner wants to test his skills… challenges the guards to a fight! Thai guards with service-minded hearts offer a promotion: come alone, get plenty more.” The post rapidly attracted attention online following its circulation on 27 May.

Reporters later visited the scene outside an entertainment venue on Walking Street but found the businesses closed, with only staff members guarding the premises. Attempts to gather eyewitness accounts were unsuccessful, with workers suggesting reporters return during the evening when more people who may have seen the incident would be present.

The administrators of the “Pattaya Wan Wan Phan Kwa Rueang” page told reporters that the video had been submitted by one of their followers. They also confirmed that the fight reportedly occurred at around 3.45am on the morning of 27 May.

The Daily News reported that no information was provided about injuries, arrests, or police action linked to the altercation. It also remains unclear what caused the confrontation before the fight began.

That didn't take long.

Only a month since the police had a meeting with security guards in walking street. All talk about de-escalate situations and contact BIB, instead of violence. Huh.

No different to the west, it's how security is upheld at nightclubs with drunks.

What is surprising is that a foreigner goes to Thailand for a holiday and ends up in a fight with the locals. This issue I can't get my head around and the weird thing is it happens so often.

The fighting entertainment used to be commonplace, but at the start of Walking St and the start of the evenings.

I feel there is a lot of negativity towards tourists by the locals these days.

Seems to be 3 on 2 actually, and you can definitely see his Muay Thai is from the internet and not a gym...

Yes, I quite agree, but when you look at the news and social media is it any wonder?

It seems the 'class' of tourist has changed and not for the better?

.maybe where you come from...but certainly not Australia, where they must be licensed..if they attack someone, the law is very strict.

Glad those days are well behind me. Of course, back in the 1980s Pattaya "Walking Street" was tame and civil by comparison. I don't miss that madness.

I think a combination perhaps of too much cheap alcohol and too much testosterone on all sides?

What are you on about? It is very different in the west. This kind of assault is not allowed and will be prosecuted. It is not acceptable anywhere and bars can and do lose their liquor licenses when their employees get into street brawls like this.

Why surprised with tightening of visa rules.. farangs allowed to practice Muay thai only for 30 days, not 60.

indians and chinese blamed for not spending enough.

those that are hi-spenders seems to be doing so on wrong items ending up in fist fights instead of using fists for other productive tasks!

pats and parts of phuket should be declared for 'anything goes', unless the plans are to shut it down

For nearly 30 years in the uk (definatly in England), doormen have to do a course and get licensed from local council. Complaints against security were taken seriously. Local councils also have their own cctv cameras everywhere in town centres. A lot of venues have a rule, get banned from one venue, your baned from all. Walky talkies connect each set of venue security.

Those Thai guys must've been very hard men. They fought 3 onto 1 and they weren't tooled up.

The usual ratio in a Thai fight is at least 10 to 1 all carrying all sorts of hardware even a fire arm or 2.

It has been reported that over participation in that activity can make you go blind. I must've passed the test because even at my age I only need glasses when I'm reading.

Rubbish!

I oversaw a few clubs. Not even one of our guys ever took a swing at anyone. Not even once. We utilised techniques to disarm and disable, with no disruption to proceedings at all.

...First Of All... 3 On 1 Is Not A Fight...It's A Mob Attack...

...Secondly...To Condone Such Barbarism...(?)

By Printing Such A Caption:

“When a foreigner wants to test his skills… challenges the guards to a fight! Thai guards with service-minded hearts offer a promotion: come alone, get plenty more.”

...Is Indicative Of Very Pathological Sociological Attitude & Behavior Towards Foreigners That Seems To Be Becoming Increasing Common... (?)

...And For Good Measure Commending The Perpetrators For Their Appropriate Conduct... (?)

Not when the Navy guys pulled in. They would get so drunk they would start fighting each other, nothing would land and they would end up half passed out on the ground kicking each other. Quite hilarious.

Here we go again, you and your stories.

You remind of the guys I meet on soi Buakhou, in the bars.

Loads of your type, ex SAS, green beret, commandos waffling on with their fictional stories

I reckon you'd fit right in with that crowd.
