Fully agree with this. Hard to enforce, but the real fear is there may very well be copycats.

Yes, but there was some media restraint. In fact, as I recall, they all stayed out of the school building and bloodbath inside. Only a foreign reporter (CNN I think) breached the building and was unanimously scorned by everyone including the Foreign Correspondents' Club of Thailand. I remember BBC's Jonathan Head sort of leading that complaint. CNN eventually apologized.

School security can be school employed security guards. I believe this school has such school security. But I have noted that only some schools have police on site. As a parent, Pattana Bangkok has loads of police security so does Schrewsbury international school. Apart from these 2 international schools who are filled with international and elite children, I have not seen any police security in other international schools let alone Thai schools.

So the question is whether what kind of security system is needed and this should include police alert..secured fencing, bringing weapons to school … then also the culture and moral education.. Thai should bring moral education as part of their primary school syllabus

The same thing happened after the last school shooting and unfortunately they will only enforce it for a while, then go back to normal. Auntin puts on a big show, as he should, but follow up is not a typical Thai way. My condolences to all that were killed or affected. It is a such a waste of lives. RIP

Check the students every morning for guns or knives similar to airport checks.

Yes good point. On school outings - field trips by bus - you often see a police escort. Not sure why. Maybe there was a spate of highway robberies or armed kidnappings targeting them?

Bullying is a national pastime. Parents/teachers bully their children/pupils, rich people bully poor people etc. etc. In such a hierarchical society, bullying is inevitable.

Teachers at school need to be more aware of there students mental state.

That applies to parents as well.

The two greatest influences on childrens lives are parents and teachers.

Thai news frequently shows smartphone video clips of horrendous child-on-child assault and bullying in schools nationwide. So it's safe to assume any "clamp downs" so quickly issued by ministers after such events are nothing more than words.

Sadly a very accurate observation. Turning a school in to a fortress will not work- and where would the money come from to create the fortress and then guard it's occupants?

Thailand has a largely uncontrolled and illegal firearm problem due to innate corruption.

Thailand has a largely weak and undisciplined educational sector due to innate corruption.

Thailand has a largely [insert poor socio-economic issue or condition here] due to innate corruption.

No problems with items 1 and 2. Practical measures that can be reasonably executed.

Item 3 is a typical catch all vague “instruction” that is meant to sound good without any specific action being taken.

The government schools that I have seen in Udon and Phuket have NO security. People wander in and out of school premises at will. The international school which my daughter attended in Udon similarly had no security other than a gate with a high catch that children couldn’t reach.

In Phuket, thankfully her school had good security, three guards at turnstiles operated by a card issued to parents

Even so, a kid attending the school with a gun in their back pack would go through. They do pay attention to bullying though and run regular classes on the impact of it. Teachers also pay attention to the overall well being of students.

Maximum precautions should have been in place by the Thai Government a long time ago to protect the students and teachers and prevent such sad incidents. Health & Safety in Thailand - never!

Everything is a "crackdown" here. Are they planning on putting armed cops in all the schools now? What a joke.

Nothing of course. These never ending pro-establishment governments are there simply to shepherd the existing status quo and keep the working class and lower middle class from getting too 'upitty' over things, while the closed circle of wealthy continue on their merry way unimpeded. So ocassionaly, like now, the politicians come out and express outrage and announce crackdowns - but it is all just momentary drama. They don't really care. Didn't involve them. Maybe they'll have an inquiry.
