The pupil had transferred 3,600 baht to scammers and was reportedly threatened with a 120,000 baht lawsuit if she failed to send more money. She later jumped from a fifth-floor bathroom window, striking an air-conditioning compressor before falling to the ground and sustaining severe injuries. Police are waiting for her condition to improve before conducting an initial interview and have pledged to pursue those responsible.

On 23 February, school director Prapaisri Buajapo and a group of teachers visited the student at hospital, presenting a gift basket and offering support to her family. Medical reports confirmed she suffered deep lacerations to both legs, a wound beneath her chin and pain in her left shoulder. Doctors are providing close and ongoing treatment.

Her latest condition shows she is conscious, alert and able to communicate and answer questions. However, she is not yet fit to provide testimony to investigators as she continues to recover. Police have stated they will wait until she is stronger before proceeding with formal questioning.

She had recently asked another friend for 300 baht but was unable to obtain it.

Amarin reported that authorities confirmed they are moving ahead with efforts to track down those involved and bring them to justice under the law. The school has expressed concern and pledged to provide full psychological support to the student to prevent similar incidents in the future.

This is a heartbreaking incident, and it highlights a growing and serious global issue of young people subjected to manipulative threats resulting in serious outcomes.

According to this report, the 14-year-old was deceived into transferring money and then threatened with a much larger debt, and in her fear and stress, she made a desperate choice.

We also see this happening in other parts of the world, where online extortion and scam schemes targeting the young aren’t just about financial loss, they can lead to anxiety, shame, isolation, and tragically, self-harm or suicide.

Let's hope she makes a speedy recovery.

Why would a kid try to kill herself before talking to her parents or teachers? Did she think neither party would help and instead scold her? Why can't kids trust those in authority anymore?

My heart goes out to her, and I hope she makes a full recovery.
