Thailand's Supreme Court began its first witness hearing on Tuesday, 25 August, in a case against 44 former Move Forward Party MPs accused of seriously breaching ethical standards in connection with efforts to amend Section 112.
The hearing at the Supreme Court's Sanam Luang premises in Bangkok is being heard under case number Kormorjor 1/2569. Thailand's National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) submitted the petition seeking a ruling on the allegations.
Parties attend first hearing
The NACC was represented at court by its assistant secretary-general, Phatthanaphong Chanphetphun.
The 44 former Move Forward MPs, listed as respondents in the case, were represented by lawyer Thiratchai Phanthumat.
Section 112 of Thailand's Criminal Code is the lese-majeste law. The proceedings concern allegations of a serious ethical violation rather than a criminal conviction in this court process.
Two further hearing dates set
The Supreme Court has scheduled two further witness hearings, on 22 September 2026 and 27 October 2026.
A total of 17 witnesses are due to be examined. The court has set a one-year timeframe for considering the case.
