Thai Woman Held With Cannabis at Muscat Airport

Omani Customs officials arrested a Thai woman after allegedly discovering almost 4.4 kilogrammes of cannabis concealed in her luggage at Muscat International Airport. According to Oman Customs, officers intercepted 4,384 grammes of marijuana during an inspection at the airport.

The drugs were reportedly hidden carefully inside the passenger’s suitcase, prompting customs officers to carry out a detailed search after suspicious items were detected during X-ray screening.

Footage released by Oman Customs on its official X account showed the suspect arriving at a customs checkpoint wearing a long pink dress and white hijab. She was carrying a handbag and black backpack while pulling a pink suitcase through the inspection area.

During the search, officers uncovered multiple packages of cannabis wrapped in a yellow courier plastic bag. The video also showed packets of seaweed snacks and laundry detergent packed inside the suitcase, although authorities did not confirm whether additional cannabis packages had been concealed within those items.

Officials stated that a total of 12 cannabis packages weighing almost 4.4 kilogrammes were seized during the operation. Oman Customs described the concealment method as highly organised and said the seizure demonstrated the continued vigilance of customs authorities in preventing illegal drugs from entering the Sultanate of Oman.

The woman was identified only as a Thai national passenger. Authorities have not released her name, further personal details, or information about any formal charges filed against her.

Under Omani law, drug smuggling offences can carry severe penalties, although officials have not confirmed what legal action the woman may face following the arrest. Oman Customs also did not disclose where the passenger had travelled from before arriving in Muscat.

The released footage focused on the customs inspection process, showing officers examining the luggage after the suspicious contents were detected by scanning equipment. The seizure has since drawn attention online after the video was shared widely on social media platforms.

Investigations are expected to continue as Omani authorities examine the origin of the cannabis and whether any wider smuggling network may have been involved.

Now they're seizing souvenirs from Thailand?!? Looks like a very sophisticated op--the ganja was put in a yellow plastic bag and tossed in a suitcase!

Of course, she was on her way somewhere. Too bad. It's just herb. The hijab was a nice touch.

Nice bit of pointing from the accused. I didn't know other countries did that, or perhaps it's not her first rodeo.

This is a real shame - Just legalise the stuff world wide.

I've never understood why alcohol is permitted (mostly) but Marijuana is seen as this obscene hard core drug by officials.

Let people smoke it if they want - Gummy's too - there are also many health benefits.

But also, be firm on misuse and abuse - just as law enforcement is / should be with drunk people.

Slight back-pedal there Nick.... you wrote, quote: "Alcohol is illegal in Oman as well" - which is completely incorrect.

Your back-pedal, is also incorrect - and the reason I know that, is because I've drank in bars in Oman, with Omani's and they were not breaking any laws.

I've drank beers in Bars in Dubai and Adu Dhabi with UAE citizens, I've drank beers in Qatar with Qatari's.

In those places I've also been to night-clubs, which are usually attached to hotels, as are most (if not all) of the bars.

Then you have places like Bahrain which is basically the 'Thailand' of the Middle East.

Saudi, its the only place I know if in the Middle East where getting a beer is difficult - and there you have to be in an 'expat' compound - or go to Bahrain, and come the weekend, Bahrain is full of Saudi's who've driven over the causeway for their weekend of debauchery and chaos !!

The reality in Oman is that it's one of the far more relaxed countries in the Middle East when it comes to alcohol consumption, although there are licensing restrictions.

So, again Nick - fact-check your comments - here is the answer you were looking for:

In Oman, personal alcohol licences are generally limited to non-Muslim residents, and Islamic norms discourage Muslims from drinking, but alcohol consumption itself is not enforced as a blanket criminal offence against all Muslims in the way it is in countries like Saudi Arabia or Kuwait.

I could also point out how you've managed one of your usual habits and taken a thread off track with incorrect information then turned it into an argument....

Back on topic now, eh champ....

A Thai Woman got picked up for smuggling Marijuana - I questioned the morality of marijuana being illegal when in 'most' of the world booze is not, yet its widely known for being far more damaging, physically and socially - here's the original response (below) so you can get back on track without having to get distracted by scrolling up...

So... Go ahead - contribute something useful, informative, debatable - i.e. is Marijuana harmful to society ? should both booze and Marijuana be widely banned ? Is it not questionable that Marijuana is widely illegal while alcohol is not ?

... start somewhere there rather than creating an argument with fallacy - change your approach and you may get along with more people on here.

You could have just said that alcohol isn't completely illegal in Oman , although its severely restricted .
