Thailand revokes Samui Israeli’s visa over bounty

An Israeli national accused of offering a bounty against the owner of an open zoo on Koh Samui has had their permission to stay in Thailand revoked, according to Tourism and Sports Minister Surasak Phancharoenworakul.

Speaking before the Cabinet meeting at Government House on 25 August 2026, Mr Surasak said he had received a report on the case, from authorities in Surat Thani province. The visitor involved had had their visa withdrawn and would not be allowed to remain in the country.

He described the move as firm action intended to stop the matter escalating into further problems.

Thailand remains open, but expects respect for laws

The Tourism and Sports Minister also stated that he supported visa revocations where there are clear cases of foreigners breaking the law, ignoring social norms or traditional ways of life, or provoking conflict.

Mr Sorawong said there had been a number of recent disputes in Samui and Phuket had reportedly involved Israelis and local people, but stressed that they concerned the behaviour of particular individuals rather than foreigners generally.

"We definitely welcome tourists of all nationalities, but on the principle that they must respect and comply with our culture and laws. The recent conflicts in those two provinces could be regarded as involving individuals, which need to be properly addressed on a case-by-case basis," he said.

He said explicit breaches should result in visa cancellation to help avoid further unrest in the affected areas. For expats and tourists, the practical message is that ordinary disputes can take more serious consequences if they involve threats, intimidation, public disorder or conduct judged to offend Thai laws and local customs.

He also said Thailand would not accept foreigners promoting national ideologies that could create wider disputes. He described Thailand as a non-conflict country and said visitors should not use it as a platform for such activity.

Minister also addresses southern security concerns

Separately, he said attacks at several locations in the four southern border provinces during the week were not expected to affect Malaysian arrivals for Malaysia's National Day holiday on 31 August.

Although the government had attempted to prevent violence, simultaneous attacks at a wide range of targets had made it difficult to protect every location fully, he said. Malaysian visitors were familiar with similar incidents and would understand that most tourist destinations had not been targeted.

Agree 100%. When I hear people say they are the "chosen ones", this makes my blood curdle. A danger to everyone outside that group.

Agree. Many Christian sects from the USA do exactly that. Among them are the Mormons.

Clearly another case of anti-Semitism. God's chosen people shall stay strong. All the God's chosen people from Patong shall unite and fight together.

You can't even imagine how lucky this Israeli was. His visa was revoked before the Thai justice system even began its work. It only seems like you can bribe your way out of anything in Thailand. In real life, this guy probably wouldn't have survived the harsh conditions of a Thai prison.

So this isn't anti-Semitism. On the contrary, it's an example of sympathy for Israelis.

This is an outstanding development, but they should be calling out Jacob by his first and last name so that we have an opportunity to shame him and his family till Kingdom Come. What he did was way over the line and his racist pig behavior should not be tolerated on any level.

See you Jacob, we don't need any of your types in Thailand, and I'm not talking about Jews or Israelis, I'm talking about idiot gutter trash racists, with no class.

Of course he should also face charges when he arrives back in Israel. As we know though "fat chance" of that happening!

He will more than likely get a presidential medal from Netanyahu.

Ta ta, bye bye now.

One of the things I like about Thailand is they generally try to co-exist in peace and harmony. One of the reasons I left the US there was to much negative, agitating type behavior.

Have you forgotten the armed conflict in southern Thailand? And the conflicts in the north? And the conflict in the east?

This seems to be a different problem to the normal ones we hear daily. It’s not drunks and drugs or ladles of the night problems.

It’s a religion problem and certain people are apparently taking over certain towns and islands . Like Paî , Samui, Koh Phangan, setting up religious communities and schools , all illegal by the way. The many land deals they have organized, all being operated from Israel, hotels with no staff, key operated, etc etc has become too much. It’s got worse very quickly, and looks very much like organises crime, which is why the government is stepping in. Apart from the obvious, there is the behavior complaints from many restaurants /shops and rudeness. There is that same problem in other countries like Bali, UK etc. I find it very strange this «  invasion », why ? And there is the question of how some of them have have Thai Nationality. Since all the time I’ve spent in Thailand, I have met only one French retired doctor married to a Thail doctor , in which he has managed to get the Nationality, and that after many years living in Thailand , retiring from the French army abroad.

There is an obvious problem that should be looked into seriously. Seems to me the Thais have understood.

I am not condoning offering a bounty for one minute. The person doing it deserves the punishment meted out. But didn't I see the Zoo owner or his staff holding up a bullet-holed shooting target to the Israelis? Surely that is a threat of violence and should be taken into account. I wonder how many Israelis are against the religiously fanatical actions of their Leaders? Much the same as citizens of other countries that are guilty of atrocities and are ashamed of their own governments.

About eight years ago I visited an audiologist in NZ. During the consultation and subsequent conversation, I enquired where she hailed from. She said she was "American, but tells everyone she is Canadian, as it was wiser due to her government's actions that she and others like her didn't approve of, and the repercussions on her business."

10 years in Thailand and this is the first year I'm seeing numerous viral cases of conflict with Israelis. It seems like there is a concentrated effort (perhaps organized) to manufacture viral conflict by baiting tourists. Raising Palestinian flags and slogans like free Palestine and No Israelis in areas known to be heavily toured by Israelis for decades isn't innocent - it is bait.

Can you Imagine what would happen if a shop owner on Soi 3 in Bangkok or Soi 16 in Pattaya displayed Israeli flags and No Arabs on their shop? How is that different?

Thailand does not need imported conflicts.

Agree. Neither does Australia.

That's why I am an atheist. On top of that my 1st wife was Canadian Jewish, my second wife was Indonesian Muslim and my third and present wife is Thai believing in Buddha. My guess is the only people who believe there is some sort of divine power who believe in some God/Buddha or other

will live forever. Good luck, is all I can say.

I am currently very happy just living with my Thai wife whilst I'm vertical, on this insane planet.

Thailand should ban all Israelis from entering the country. Indonesia, Malaysia and the Maldives have done it already, with good reason. Israelis cause problems everywhere.

The bans are mostly about opposition to Israeli government policies rather than tourist behavior.

Their arrogant attitude that they are "chosen people" goes a very long way to explain why so many people dislike them.

Considering why the State of Israel was formed, they in particular have very short memories!

Coming from a Jewish background that I firmly rejected as a teenager (along with all other religion) I've disliked every one with whom I was required to come into contact (including members of what I derisively call my family). Having travelled extensively I can't think of another race about whom I feel so negative and will avoid wherever possible!

This dislike is not a political statement, nor meant to incite anyone else's actions, it's how I personally feel about people I have met - truly "IMO"

Refreshing to hear from a self hating Jew who is totally out of the closet.

Dude --- you're promoting racist Jew hatred.

Jews are not a monolith.

My wife doesn't know anything about world politics or a place called the West Bank. She simply has read or been told about customers doing runners from Thai restaurants and Israeli only properties (enclaves) in Pai and Koh Samui.

For her it is not about the Israeli government actions it is about individual's actions and rude Israelis with no respect for Thai people or the laws of Thailand.

Straw man garbage.

Banning an entire nationality based on the bad actions of some people of that nationality is stupid and evil.

Malaysia often described as the most racist Jew hating nation in the world and yet has no Jews, did not ban over tourist behavior.

Nice try but no cigar.

READ THE TOPIC!

I was responding to a bigoted moron who was promoting that and used Malaysia as an example.

You aren't posting in good faith either.

I reckon your own attitudes influenced your Thai wife.
