September 13, 20178 yr I have hand carried MTBs into Thailand maybe ten or twelve times from Singapore, never ever been charged duty when you explain you are a tourist on a bicycle touring holiday. Importing completed bicycles into Thailand for resale through regular importation channels carries 30% if my memory severs me correctly, the shops and importers here tell me they never under invoice as customs are on the ball and know the cost of every single bike of any brand when imported for resale. Some people tried claiming "no invoice anymore" to avoid that. Then you would be at the mercy of the custums officer, you don't want the bike to be stuck at the airport. Just my thoughts. I just brought mine last week and no one stopped me or said anything.

September 15, 20178 yr Author Rimmer, Ridge and Goldbear, thanks for newest input, including duty-free bicycle "imports" into Thailand.
September 16, 20178 yr After collecting from the oversize checked baggage ramp, I rolled my Montague past Thai customs in its custom hard case on wheels. Nobody said owt.
