ROAD TRIP

Featured Replies

Hi, me and some of my friends are looking to do road trip from Thailand to Malaysia and then Singapore. Since I have yet to buy my own car I only have to option of renting one and travel. When I was researching the requirements needed to cross the borders I saw many different things. Some said that you can not take a rented car over the boarder, and another site said it is possible but I would need a letter and identification of the owner in order to prove that I was allowed to. Can anyone tell me the requirements or documents I would need and if there are any car rental companies that are trusted or might allow me to travel? I already have the entire trip planned so I hope I am able to find a way to make it all work.

Thanks!!

I don't know if it is possible, but I very much doubt it is. Singapore and cars = big money for starters. To take a car out of Thailand you need a load of paperwork that no sensible Car Hire company will give you. Hertz Thailand will allow you to drop off a car at a different location, no charge if you rent for more than 5 days, a small charge if less than 5 days. So you may find you'll have to bus it from the nearest border town across the border, and if Hertz in Malaysia  have the same deal, get near the Singapore border and same again.

In Singapore, if you're on any kind of budget, rental costs will probably push you to taxis and public transport given the size of the city.

no rental car company is gong to allow you to take their car out of the country>>>>
