Four Vietnamese arrested over sea cucumber haul

By The Nation

The Navy has captured a Vietnamese fishing boat and arrested four crew members after the boat was found illegally harvesting sea cucumbers in the Gulf of Thailand.

The boat was towed to the Navy base in Songkhla at 11am on Saturday.

Officials said a patrol vessel found the fishing boat harvesting sea cucumbers near Tachee cape in Pattani. The Vietnamese said they travelled from Ca Mau in Vietnam.

Since October, the Navy has captured 40 Vietnamese fishing boats and detained 229 crew members.

Saving endangered species is no issue when they can eat it, or make some money. Or both.

There is no indication that the holothurians are  endangered;  I think it more likely that the Vietamese boat was arrest because it was fishing in Thai waters
