Marriage Question About Parental Consent

Featured Replies

Hello everyone, I have a question I would like to ask and get an answer for. I tried Google searching but coming up with mixed results from various sites.

I'm a US and Thai Citizen between 22-25 years old, I am interested in marrying my girlfriend who is about 19 years old, Thai National. I've been wanting to take her to USA to live and study there.

I read that the legal age of marriage here is 17, but cannot get a answer, if we can get marry without parental consent or ceremony.

Can we get married without parental consent? They don't connect well and she doesn't talk to them, and vice versa (Not because of our relationship).

Thanks!

The age of majority is 20 in Thailand. Until that age a person needs consent from the parents or permission from a judge if parental consent cannot be obtained.

For a ceremony that is of course not neceserry, as that has no legal status. Only the registration at the amphur makes that you are legally married.

She has to be 20 to get married without her parent's consent in Thailand.

You can get married in another country where the age of consent is 18, but she will probably need a visa to get there.

Personally I would wait a few months.
