George Bowman
In a nutshell. The spoiled boy grows up and starts his own tourist related business. Then he gets upset because other tourist companies are undercutting him. Mommy! Daddy!
Kopitiam
Wait until the Chinese visitors number goes down and they will go begging for zero-baht tours again. Absolutely no economic sense, more like mafia mentality (cartel). Zero-baht tours are filling hotel rooms.

madmitch
What does the 2000 baht a night refer to? The overall price they pay? The amount that is visibly seem to enter the Thai economy? Bed and board? Typically vague. If the Governor succeeds in reducing the number of Chinese tourists then, considering the island's big money is being spent on attractions aimed at the Chinese, I'd guess his tenure will be ended as abruptly as the last Governor. inThailand
Screw around with the Chinese and they will take their money elsewhere. Until Phuket gets replacement tourists for the Chinese, best to keep them for the sake of the countless number of businesses barely surviving. Totally ruined by Chinese tourists, who are paying a National Park admission fee.
