Jonathan Fairfield Posted September 15, 2017 Share Posted September 15, 2017 North Korea is hacking Bitcoin exchanges to get round international sanctions North Korea has hacked at least three Bitcoin exchanges in a bid to steal money and circumvent international sanctions, security experts have said. According to cyber security firm FireEye, hackers linked to the despotic regime have hacked three cryptocurrency exchanges in South Korea in order to steal Bitcoin. The firm also says that North Korea has a history of using cyber attacks to target banks and steal money. “Now, we may be witnessing a second wave of this campaign: state-sponsored actors seeking to steal Bitcoin and other virtual currencies as a means of evading sanctions and obtaining hard currencies to fund the regime,” FireEye’s Luke McNamara wrote.
