BANGKOK: -- Extremist anti-Islam monk Phra Apichart Punnajanto, who last month posted online videos that harshly condemn Islam, was forced to disrobe on Wednesday.

Apichart was arrested at a temple in Songkhla on Tuesday and detained for interrogation by police at a military camp.

He was then brought to be defrocked at Wat Benchamabophit, or the Marble Temple, in Bangkok where he was head of monk preachers.

It was believed that the monk was taken into custody because of videos he had posted online.

In 2015, Phra Apichart made headlines for using his Facebook account to urge Buddhists to burn one mosque for every monk killed by southern insurgents.

“If a Buddhist monk dies from being shot at, or from an explosion in the South at the hands of Malayu bandits, a mosque should be burned, starting from the northern part of Thailand southwards,” he posted.

The term “Malayu bandits” refers to Muslim insurgents fighting the Thai state in the three southernmost provinces and four districts in Songkhla, where about 80 per cent of the two million residents identify themselves as Malay.

Following pressure from the authorities and the Supreme Sangha Council, Phra Apichart decided to close his Facebook account temporarily at that time.

Speak out against Islam by all means. It's a religion, it's not a person. Incite violence towards anyone then no. No one can do that - especially monks.

BANGKOK — A spokesman for the junta said Thursday that a controversial monk taken into military custody and flown to Bangkok to be forcibly disrobed at Wat Benchamabophit had been warned before for his provocations against Muslims.

Col. Winthai Suvari defended the soldiers who took Apichat Punnajanatho into military custody and flew him to Bangkok to be expelled from the monkhood Wednesday night, saying the Supreme Sangha Council had warned him to stop attacking Islam back in 2015.

a real leader, inciting others to do what he is too much of a coward to do himself.

Moreover, only one in three British Muslims (34%) would contact the police if they believed that somebody close to them had become involved with jihadists.

Ah I love it when hate bodies, riddled with prejudice and vile bigotry, are quoted as reputable sources of information.

Here's the truth about this disgusting organisation.

Is that also valid for any imam, ayatollah or whatever names they may have?

Because they preach from the quoran, which states, more or less, to kill unbelievers and destroy their places of prayer.

And Bhuddists are, for islam, unbelievers, so any monk killed or murdered is the south has been ordered.

Or is this allowed because we don't want to make muslims angry?

There are approx 1.3 billion Muslims in the world and the majority are peaceful. The radical Muslims are estimated to be around 20% which means there are approx 260 million Muslims in the world dedicated to the destruction of non Muslims.

So you judge muslims on what is written in their Holy Fairytale Book.

Do you judge christians on what is written in their Holy Fairytale Book?

well done, monks should pray for peace, not incite more violence.

Monks don't pray, please try to read the translation of what they are chanting. It is called chanting not praying and if you read it you will not find God or anything to do with God.

I really hope people understand Buddhism is not about God or Buddha being a God. Thailand is a buddhist country where so many buddhists know next to nothing about Buddhism, like in Japan.Japan is another ignorant buddhist country so much so that they made buddhism sounds silly and hollow, like the Soka Gakkai buddhist society. I believe in Japan the buddhist monk will say to you, "since buddha is not a God then I can have sex" and they do have sex quite often. Fornication among buddhist monks is nothing surprising to japanese people. Japanese monks also get married what a joke.

In case someone thinks I am talking nonsense just find a Professor in University who lectures on Buddhism don't ask the monks because it would be bias for the monk. The professor will tell you what I wrote here is true. I am an atheist no reason for me to talk bad about any religion just the truth that's all.

All religions have their bigots puking hate.

As for holy books advocating violence and intolerance, the Torah and the bible are no better or worse than the Koran.

I  agree with this Monk, too bad he has been disrobed as it is like a Win for the

Muslims.  I have Muslim relatives, and they have told me that they will not admit

being Muslim as they know  too many other Muslims who support the rebels

in the deep  south,  as well as other violence that  Muslims are involved with.

Geezer

We  who have to live whit Muslims everyday does have a lot of problems whit them, we have humans from all over the world living here and we dont have any problems whit them, only the Muslims.

Muslims are in for a hard time and many times there is a good reason for it.  No one should kill each other but humans are what they are .

They moved quickly to staunch any spread of anti-muslim sentiment from the radical Burmese monks and laymen next door. Thai authorities understand the danger in letting those divisions spread from the south and take hold throughout. It would be a disaster.
