US citizen, 47 years old

Arrived Thailand from LAX on Dec 14th. Was issued a 30 day visa upon arrival (exp. Jan. 12th). Only stayed one night before departing for Nepal. Currently in Kathmandu. Would like to stay in Thailand for more 60 days. I had called the Thai embassy in the US before leaving and was told that I should apply for a 60 day tourist visa at the embassy in Kathmandu. However when I went there this morning, I was told they no longer issue visas to foreigners due to the Maoist revolution. Tried calling Thai immigration but only heard an automated message. Was not able to talk to anyone. How do get a 60 day visa now? Can fly back on Wednesday morning, but would prefer to fly back on Friday. Do I need to go to another country to get this or can this be done in Bangkok? If so where when would I do this? Thanks in advance.

Fly back, obtain a 30 day permitted to stay visa free entry - cross border and do again (or obtain a tourist visa if you need).

Fly to KL or Singapore, obtain tourist visa, return to Thailand.

You can not obtain a tourist visa inside Thailand.
