Bali Hai renovation moving along

PATTAYA:--The renovation of Bali Hai Pier appears more than half done and on schedule for completion before the international fleet show in November.

A tour of the South Pattaya jetty area Sept. 11 showed that contractor BS & BS Pattaya Ltd. had completed a new multipurpose area where the parking lot previously stood. Work on the pier’s central pavilion also appears complete.

Other areas of the pier are still being extended to accommodation the tens of thousands of people expected to attend the Nov. 13-22 fleet show each day. Roads leading into the pier also have been dug up and re-surfaced.

Well if they are intending to improve the area around the lighthouse itself they don’t have much time left and they have a lot of work to do. I was really expecting them to do a high standard fixup job in that area bearing in mind the heads of so many international navies will be visiting.

They have done a wonderful job of semi-destroying what was already there but that’s as far as it goes.

There is so much rubbish around that area. Plastic bottles, polystyrene bowls , broken beer bottles and even an old mattress because people are actually living on that part of the beach now and cooking food. Afterwards they just leave their rubbish.

The other morning I was trying to enjoy the ocean breeze but one small group of campers had lit a fire and there was so much smoke  billowing out all over the area that you couldn't even breathe. It’s like a little ghetto
