Trang deluged in rain-whipped perfect storm

By The Nation

Six of Trang province’s 10 districts were hit by flash floods on Friday morning from a combination of mountain runoff, swollen rivers and high seas.

Two days of torrential rains resulted in water coursing down the Banthad mountains into Na Yong, Yan Ta Khao and Palian districts.

Palian also suffered from its river (also called the Palian) overflowing and rising sea tides, along with Had Samran, Kantang and Sikao districts.

Hillside runoff inundated about 1,000 houses in Na Yong, Yan Ta Khao and Palian.

Floodwater in Sikao and Kantang was between 20 and 30 centimetres deep.

The ground floor of Sikao’s Anantara Hotel and Kantang’s business area and railway station were flooded.

There was partial flooding on the main roads from Kantang and Muang Trang to the village of Ban Had Yao, a tourist destination in Tambon Koh Libong.

Classes had to be cancelled at Ban Klong Sireh School in Sikao’s Tambon Bo Nam Ron.

Trang Governor Siripat Pattanakul made the rounds Friday morning, deeming Kantang the hardest-hit area, followed by Sikao.
