Wait for a definitive answer from @ubonjoe. Meanwhile, this is my understanding.

If your intention is to do more than business meetings and actually carry out work in Thailand for Thai clients, you will find it difficult to satisfy the legal requirements. Briefly, following a change of policy a few years ago, you are allowed to visit Thailand on a tourist visa for business meetings , to attend trade shows, and purchase goods at qualifying trade shows. Also, spending time in Thailand as a digital nomad (working exclusively online for overseas clients) while not strictly legal is tolerated. Pretty much all other kinds of work carried out in Thailand require a work permit, and you need a non immigrant B visa before you can get the work permit.

With rare exceptions that you would not qualify for, to get a non immigrant B visa, you need to be sponsored by a Thai company who apply for the work permit on your behalf.

According to the pdf that you linked to already: http://www.thaiembassy.org/kualalumpur/contents/files/services-20170329-105808-985625.pdf

You just need this:

Required documents: 1. Completed visa application form. 2. Original passport with at least 6-month validity and 1 blank visa page. 3. A copy of passport (ID page). 4. A passport size photo (white/ blue background and taken within the past 6 months) 5. A Copy of reservation/confirmation of return ticket (ticket in and out of Thailand). If traveling by personal vehicle, please submit a copy of vehicle registration and a copy of the vehicle owner’s identity card/ passport. 6. A Copy of reservation/confirmation of accommodation for the whole stay in Thailand or rental agreement. If staying with a friend/relative, please submit his/her invitation letter and a copy of his/her identity card/passport.

If you look around, KL is not considered one of the most friendly embassies/consulates to attend.  Penang is more friendly.  I was there recently and it was a breeze.  Vientiane is even easier from a documentation perspective.  Regarding working as a "digital nomad", it's pretty well tolerated as far as I can tell.  I made the mistake of telling an IO at Swampy airport that I was a software engineer that worked online when I got pulled aside for my 7th Visa Exempt entry, and it was like a magic pass and I was waved in.  Technically, however, doing any "work" in Thailand is illegal, but since you're spending money here and not competing with Thai people or businesses, it seems to be no problem in practice.  I'd just not mention it though.  There's plenty of coworking spaces where farang are working as DMs and they're not targeted in any way.  If you intend to work with Thai clients, that's an entirely different matter and you definitely need a Work Permit, which you will find yourself essentially unable to get.  If you intend to only stay here 60 days and you have a UK passport, a visa exempt entry with a 30 day extension is an easier approach, especially if you haven't previously spent much time in Thailand.

As I understand it, tickets from flyonward will work just fine.  I don't think the consulate/embassy actually calls to verify, but you'd want to make sure the ticket is still valid while your visa app is in progress JIC.  For the extension, no onward ticket is required.  So just make the onward ticket for within the 2 month period.

If you do apply for a tourist visa in Kuala Lumpur, can you please report back on how it goes. It will be interesting to learn whether KL has again become a viable option for those who want to do a visa run.
