SONGKHLA: -- A maid who left her four year daughter to sleep in a storage room on the sixth floor must face a lifetime of regret after her child fell to her death yesterday.

Locals at the apartment building said they heard a noise of something falling through a roof but didn't think anything of it.

Half an hour later, however, they heard the cries of a child and a door was forced leading to the discovery of the child. She had fallen through a makeshift roof and was barely alive.

Medics were called to the block in Soi 14 Ban Thai and CPR given before the child was taken to Sadao Hospital in Songkhla. She was later reported as having died.

She had suffered multiple fractures and other wounds.

The child's mother, aged 30, said that she was a cleaner at the building. She had left her daughter sleeping in a storage and laundry room on the sixth floor while she was working on the second floor with another maid.
