Suvarnabhumi airport officials late on Wednesday (Sept 27) night barred a group of 20 people from the Northeast Region from travelling to South Korea in a tour group for suspecting they planned to stay in that country illegally to find jobs.

The 20 people were invited for questioning by Aroon Chaichan, chief of the airport’s office for screening job seekers, while they were going through the airport’s immigration checkpoints in a tour group.

In the questioning, they all gave the same information that they were persuaded to travel to that country as tourists.  They were told that on arriving in that country, they could continue to stay in South Korea where they would be provided with jobs as gardeners and waiters or waitresses at restaurants.

South Korea must be keeping a close eye on all those bloody farangs coming to their country and stealing the jobs that are for 'Korean people'.

I wonder if kimchi maker is an exclusive position only held by Korean nationals.

stopped going into S korea

If they are flying Thai, they would be responsible for the return flight if they are refused entry. Been a lot of dubious job seekers ending up in doodoo with the Thai government picking up the tab to sort it out.

They get duped into slave labor upon arrival. They have their passports taken. There must have been an alert out for the tour company or guide.

If the Thai authorities strongly suspect these people are being scammed, why ignore it and let them get to S. Korea to face lots of problems and difficulties, probably exacerbated by lack of language skills?
