How long does it take for a work permit to be approved?

I am working here, I have a non B and I have been told my WP has been applied for, but they cannot tell me how long it could/should take to come through...

I have some personal effects due to arrive that I shipped and the shipper has told me that i need to produce my original passport and WP at customs before they will release my possessions. Is this correct or will I get away with just showing my passport with my visa stamp in it, has anyone else had any similar experiences?

WP varies greatly I believe but believe usually less than 3 weeks.

You need a work permit to import without paying duty.

It does vary, as Lopburi says. In July of last year mine took almost a month, but one we applied for recently (in the last three weeks) was turned around in just short of two weeks.

sunbelt did mine in EXACTLY 10 working days, so that's 2 weeks including weekends.
