WASHINGTON D.C., 4th October 2017, (NNT) - The Thai Prime Minister has assured the United States, of Thailand's determination to hold a general election next year, as the two nations underlined their strong relationship and vowed to continue all aspects of cooperation.

Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha and his wife Naraporn Chan-o-cha this week visited President Donald Trump and the first lady, Melania Trump at the White House in Washington, D.C.

President Trump invited General Prayut and his wife into the Oval Office where photographs were taken of them together.

The two leaders then engaged in a Four-Eyed Meeting where they discussed the upcoming bicentennial anniversary of diplomatic ties between Thailand and the U.S. next year.

General Prayut also invited Ivanka Trump, an advisor to President Trump, to Thailand to observe the nation’s effort in dealing with human trafficking.

General Prayut said Thai investors are ready to invest more than 800 million USD in the United States, adding that Thailand is willing to serve as a coordinator between the U.S. and ASEAN.

Vietnam could be a better choice in the future; a better educated, multi lingual society.  Further in the future, it might be Kunming with proposed railway system.

In particular as Vietnam is less likely to be phagocyted by China.

Thailand has never been colonized?  That's because they are chameleons. Think about it.  :ninja:

Not since it gained independence from the Khmer Empire to become the Kingdom of Siam.

Avoiding colonization had more to do with permission of the British in the 1800's to exist as a sovereign state under Britain's Buffer State Strategy to counter French annexations in SE Asia than to being "invisible" or to any resistance of the Kingdom of Siam to colonization.

However, the Kingdom did have to give up sovereign territory to the French in the 1800's under “The Doctrine of Compensatory Advantage” in negotiations between the British and French. Siam had a choice of accepting annexation of some of its territory or complete loss of independence.
