Lol.... the "overlooked" "something" may have been education ?

seems people are generally blind to the widespread incompetence here

Be assured...it is NOT only Pattaya. Went to Koh Samet a few years back, which was lovely BTW,  but at the opposite end of the beach from us...where the Mermaid & Piper statues are...awful BLACK bilge water water was being pumped down to the shoreline, where it was then pouring into the sea. Needless to say, we stayed at our end...up wind and up current.

Totally disgusting. :1zgarz5: Wish now I had photographed it.

Are tourist coming to enjoy the natural beauty or perhaps the nightlife is the real reason and they are not the ones impacted. Thais live there...they are the ones who are really impacted.

On my first trip to Thailand, 17 years ago, I visited Pattaya.  I like to swim, and saw the beach, and thought :  how nice , a tropical beach, and nice warm water to swim in.   I swam out about 30 yards, and was suddenly in the middle of a BIG area of solid human sewage.  I doubt things have gotten any better since 2000.

Nope.  My first visit was in 2004.  I knew enough not to swim in the Pattaya beach.  Jomtien seemed OK, and I even swam in Nakula once.  I never got sick from it.  But the last few years?  forgedaboudit.  never mind all the trash and floating debris, the other stuff and bacteria is just too much.
