I have a Thai friend who is a keen runner.

He has had a verruca for about 8 weeks. I am a retired medic, so we have used Salicylic Acid liquid with collodion and also the old-wives' duct tape cure, a little later. The problem went, but only for 3-4 days.

The poor guy is totally fed up! I am aware that acid treatment can be 2-3 months, but the guy cannot walk.

I think that he now needs Cryo with L. Nitrogen, or the other option which is normally a heated loop wire with a curette (small spoon) to dig it out. I have neither of these, and anyway, I don't have a sterile area nor an autoclave.

His problem is money. His Social-S hospital just gives him the liquid acid again and again.

A farang friend had Cryo for this, and was fine in 4 days. he paid 2000b. In Korat.

Has anybody had this done in BKK? Where? How much? Any info welcomed. Extremely!

Eddy

Hi Eddy, one of our family had the liquid nitrogen treatment at St. Louis hospital in Sathorn.
Very good and efficient service, cannot remember exactly how much, I think 2,100 baht.

Thx Tommy. That sounds good. Some idiot told my friend it would be 10,000. My friend has no idea about anything even vaguely anatomical, physiological or in any way pathological. I do, but I can't speak even 30 words of Thai. I had forgotten about St Louis, despite having been there aeons ago! That's great.

Cryotherapy is in my personal experience not very effective.  After 7 rounds of cryotherapy my determatologist sent me to a surgeon for curettage and causterisation.  I had about a dozen warts removed from under both feet.  I was left unable to walk without extreme pain for two weeks.  I spent most of the time sitting on an office chair, propelling myself around, and climbed the stairs on my backside.

The good news is that I've had no warts on my feet for over a year now.  The bad news is that I've been left with very thick areas of skin where the skin was cut out and when they get moist (e.g. my feet have been inside shoes for an hour and have been sweating) they are uncomfortable when I walk.

My advice would be to try cryotherapy, but no more than two rounds.

Incidentally, I had cryotherapy on a wart on my finger earlier this week at Samitivej.  Total cost 1,766.30 baht.  Doubtless there are other hospitals which are cheaper.

p.s. Laser treatment is extremely effective, quick and far less painful than c&c causing less tissue damage.  However, depending on the position of the wart (how close it is to bone) it may not be suitable.  That would be my first choice every time now.  The cryotherapy this week was because the wart wasn't suitable for laser treatment.
