Five arrested, 700 fake brand goods seized in Pattaya

By The Nation

Police raided two shopping malls in Pattaya on Thursday and arrested five vendors for allegedly selling fake brand-name watches and handbags.

Acting on complaints from representatives of popular brands, police raided the two malls and seized 700 items, including suspected fake watches and bags imitating popular brands such as Rolex, Cartier and Gucci.

Some vendors managed to flee.

Phubet Mingkwan, a brand representative, said he has learned that fake goods have been sold at the two malls for some time and so he sought a search warrant from the Pattaya court.

He said that if sold the seized fake watches and handbags would have caused damages of over Bt10 million to the brands.

Shocked, who would have thought such a thing went on in a "World Class Resort" like Pattaya.

Let me take a flying guess - Mikes Mall ?

" the seized fake watches and handbags would have caused damages of over Bt10 million to the brands. "

Nobody that shops in xxxx Shopping Mall believes they are buying originals at huge discounts.

There wasn't any loss to the manufacturers. A totally stupid idea that the people that would have knowingly bought the 700 copied items  at less than 1 or 2 thousand baht will now purchased the obscenely overpriced originals  at an average of nearly 15,000 baht.

LOS, Land of Stupid. LOC, Land of Copies.

You can still order them from Lazada

Haha, I could likely buy 700 fake branded goods in a few hours shopping!

What happens to the fake goods after they have been seized by the fake police?

It will be returned to the vendors after the exchange of brown envelopes. Then a new day tomorrow. They are probably already back.

It's improving..not very long ago those raids resulted in thousands and thousands of counterfeit goods.

Funny question.

A monkey could answer that

But you couldn't?  It's called a rhetorical question to make a point.

The strange thing is, in many instances the technology to fight against counterfeit goods and Intellectual Property Rights infringement has existed for years.

IMHO I would place the onus for augmenting these respective technologies with the manufacturers, as whether this is achieved overtly or covertly -  I believe it is certainly doable and would then provide the necessary safeguards to protect consumers.

Wrong

Only a few are displayed the rest are in the lockup around the corner and only topped up when they sell a few.

But its everywhere a country full of copies that flood in via the containers or in via Laos, It will never stop as our friends across a few borders from here turn them out by the Shed load every day. When and if the fast trains come, watch it increase.
